You will enjoy reading Mary Lou's interesting tales slowboattonursinghome.com

Brock Laing from Canada who purchased the Cooks park model has emailed me and asked if any of you talented folks might be interested in putting a band together to entertain next year in the parks around the Valley. If you know of someone who might like to do this let him know...laingbro@kingston.net

Memorial Day Burger B.B.Q

Bill Griffin passed away this morning at around 7:55. There will be a memorial service this Friday at 2:00
We had around 44 for our Grilled burgers. Bobby Thomas did a great job. Aderton's and Quails brought home made icecream. It was sooooo good!
Last night about 9:30 or so we had a hail storm and lightning and thunder, no damage but the hail hitting the metal awning was really loud, marble sized.
Here are a few pictures of the supper and a picture of Kristy the new puppy of Bev Ostrander

Friday Donuts May 22nd

Betty and Harell Aderton furnished the donuts this morning. there were 28 to 30 attending. It was a lovely cool morning.
Irene and John are back and we just came back from a short trip to Waco. Next week we will be gone to Vegas for a couple weeks. Bev Ostrander is back so hopefully you will get a news letter.
Irene had four cards in the lobby to sign when we got home yesterday, one to Frank Willard and Phyllis on the death of his sister, one to Verne Miller who had triple by-pass, doing very well, a card to Paul Ziaja, hospital for a serious infection in his leg, and a card for the family of a former resident who lived at 226, Marcel Belzer, who passed away.
Aloyce talked to us about Bill Griffin. He was moved last night to the Aurora House which is on 18th st. It's run totally on donations. Aloyce is putting up a sheet for folks to make donations of various things, such as paper goods, Canned food, laundry products, wash cloths etc. We plan on bringing some items Monday to be taken there. And of course any monetary donations. Our Elks Lodge gives $100.00 each month for them to use as needed there. And any help is so greatly appreciated. Even from your home up North if you feel you would like to donate some money, don't hesitate as it's badly needed. There mailing address is Aurora House, P.O.Box 976, Weslaco,TX. 78599. Telephone there is 956-973-9690. Most folks there are at the point of 3 months or so left so they are bed ridden and it takes alot of supplies to help them.
We are having hamburgers on the grill Monday for Memorial Day.
Jack our mgr. has decided to move all the dumpsters to the back, that way there will be much needed space for a new shop for the boys and also a workshop for residents to use. there has aways been folks complaining of the smell of the dumpsters there and moving them several times a week is a very strenuous hard job moving them in and out. There was discussion about what to do with a few residents who have no golf cart or vehicle to get their garbage back to the dumpsters but many said if they would set it out to the curb there are plenty of folks riding around and someone will pick it up for them. Also Connie and Jack discussed the possibility of our residents having a 2 pet limit in our park. Walter is very ademant about only one pet per household and wants it to be enforced. So no more 2 pets allowed.
It has been so dry here. The yards who don't get watered look pretty brown. I think alot of plants will not make it this Summer. While we were gone there was a shower and someone said 7 one hundreds of an inch rain!!
You will be amazed at the huge Penny's store going in East of WalMart, to open in October the whole outside is up and we were really shocked on the size of it. there will be a big shopping center there , hope there will be a Hobby Lobby!!!!

Friday Donuts May 15th

We had 35 for coffee and donuts this morning. Judy Anselmin and Alice Matson provided them.
We talked about the upcoming "Fun Night" for this evening, and Bobby Thomas will grill hotdogs and everyone will bring finger food. We play games after.
Paul Turner and Larry Dixon are leaving for Kansas Sat. morning and Jan and Gary Philipp are leaving Tuesday morning. Dave and Aloyce Berglund are in Dallas for their Grandaughters wedding. We are leaving Thursday for LasVegas.
Mother's Day Dinner went over real well, several said there was alot of good food. As I said earlier we had dinner with friends at Mingos Restaurant in Mercedes.
We have 51 pictures on the Veterans Wall of Honor now. Bobby said besure and send him one if you haven't done so.
There wasn't much new news from The Mgrs. The only thing Jack said was about the brush that the maintenence men haul out of here to some place , that they wouldn't be able to haul there any more as the guy did not have a permit from the city. So they will be looking for another site.
The gas is about $2.15 for regular now.
Quails are back so you will need to contact Irene if you know of someone needing a card. Rollo and Arlene Fishers 50th Wedding Anniversary coming up. There's going to be a anniversary party in Nasua Ia. the end of this month!

We sat with Aloha and Marion, Alohas Daughter and husband and the Grandson and girlfriend were there, Tom and Ruth Bergstedt, and two other friends of Alohas.Berglunds came a little later with their Granddaughter, Sarah and also Dar came too.
Gas has sure gone up, I think I paid 2.08 today at H.E.B.
Where it says post a comment , you can sure do that. I just recently read one from the Thorpes, Ann has had quite a spell with pneumonia. The last I talked to them they were getting anxious to get back down here. I think in a couple weeks they will be back.
I decided not to post our scores any more as not too many folks wou;ld be interested!
The field to the South of the park was nicely mowed last week. It's so dry down here, glad to have the weeds mowed downSmileyCentral.com

Friday Donuts May 8th

(%)

We only had about 32 at donuts this morning.
Queen Bee Darlene led the discussion, Aloyce and Dave furnished the donuts but kind of forgot so Bobby and Gary went and picked them up. The Berglunds have had a lot going on, with Bill and Dar this week. Also yesterday had their dogs spade and Bill and Dars dog did not feel good last night and Aloyce was up with it real late, it wasn't coming out of the anesthetic very well, but all is fine this morning. Bill and Dars daughter is here for awhile and yesterday they moved Bill to Weslaco Nursing and Rehab facility on 18th St. He has been in and out of the hosp. 4 times in the last 6 weeks or so. And has not bounced back like he has in the past.
I sent cards to Irma and Arvin Brown, former residents who lived at 252. Their son Lee was killed in a firey crash. Also a card for Madison the Mgrs. Grand daughter who has had quite a virus with strept throat and ear infection, she's 4.
Connie and Jack were there and gave a little run down on what the guys are doing. They are moving the 2 dumpsters that are across from the bathrooms in the 99's over along the fence with the rest of the dumpsters, and will pour a cement slab. and there will be a little more room for storage area. also building onto the work shop and making a much larger place for the guys and Asst. Mgrs. tools. Also are going to paint the benches at the shuffleboard court.
We were reminded of the Mother's Day potluck to be this Sunday at 12:30. Bobby Thomas and Harel Aderton were going to be setting up the tables this morning.
We are having a Fun Night next Friday night. Bobby Thomas is grilling hotdogs and we will all bring a snack and play games after. We had fun nights last Summer and it was neat.
Bobby says to remind you Veterans to please send him your pic. for the Wall of Honor. get it sized to a 4 X 6 please, some were sent and were not near big enough and I had to resize it on my scanner/printer and the quality is not quite as good as I would like it.Besure to include your rank at discharge and years of service, if you didnt fill out the form before you left.
We had a Ladies Day Out , Thursday. We went to a place called "Tasters" on North Texas.Formally "The Bistro" It was a bit pricey and service not so great but of course we all enjoyied the fellowship. We plan to do this every couple weeks or so. But different places.there was 18 of us. We were going to Mama's Garden Cottage but she had a big Red Hat luncheon there that day and couldnt accomadate us so thats why we went to Tasters.
Well thats about all for now. Haven't heard from Bev Ostrander about her Grand daughter yet. I do know she may bring a new Border Collie back with her, you all knew her "Misty" died shortly before she left for Iowa
Email or call me about anything you may want posted on the blog. I am doing the cards until Irene quail gets back which may be within a week or so.
Miss you all!!!!!!!!!!!!

We went out to Cheyenne Zinks for a brunch last Tuesday, they live at Progresso Lakes,on 8 acres. the house was built in the 30's and Cheyenne has really decorated it so beautifully. She has lots of antiques and I guess you would say a Victorian flare, 7 bedrooms and 7 baths, lots to take care of.

May 1st Friday Morning Donuts

We had a smaller group for donuts this morning. I estimate 40 maybe.
Darlene led a short meeting. We decided on a potluck for Mother's Day.And Kay Gibson said she would decorate. WE also are having a Ladies Day Out. The ladies are going to Mama's Garden Cottage for lunch on the 7th. It is Javiers Birthday today so we had a card to sign for him. His wife has been so terribly ill with stomach cancer and now in her esophagis, they are supposed to take her to M.D. Anderson in Houston.
Bill Griffin was sent home from rehab he wasnt progressing as they had hoped. So he will be getting home health care on a daily basis. Dar and Bill need our prayers, it's been very hard on them both. The mgrs were not present this morning. I do know the Asst. Mgrs. just returned from a quick trip to Fla. to get their motor home back here.Hopefully they will get to move into the park soon and Connie and Jack will get moved onto the mgrs house.
Still hot and dry here. And Windy!
Well, that's about all the news for now.
