Sept. 2nd

The Hummers are sure swarming the feeders. Do you think they're getting ready to fly South for the Winter? lol
Gene Koliba and Mary Freundshuh provided the donuts this morning.
Sue and Ken Barnhart are making Italian Beef Sandwich meal for Labor day.
Jr. Shepherd passed away. Flora and Jr. lived at 212,I think 2006 or 2007 were the last years they were here. Clay Anrneson, J-1,his wife, Agatha, passed away.
Donna Granath and Peg Haylelan's Brother, Dick Fisher passed away.
Sorry to have to report the sad news this week. Ken Van Dyke is in Hospice now, Fred Swaggert in the hospital, wasn't doing too well, but the last news from Barbara is he is much better, Gloria Hauser is in the hospital for a virul infection, Judy Anselmin is in Valley Grande Manor, also Al Mason has had a hard time with his hip surgery, Dolores said more re-hab for him. Richard and Donna Perkins home burned down, you may have heard of the horrible fires around Ft.Worth.
Beginning Sept. 1st there are a big increase in tax on liquor and beer, for importing, from $1.25 to for $3.50 for a fifth, and beer is now $3.50 for a case. that's quite a jump.
We are not in the path of the next hurricane, I feel for the folks in New Orleans who are.

Friday Coffee and Donuts

Hello, we only had 16 or 18 for donuts this morning, Del and Bev provided them but they're not here so Davis's picked them up for them.
The sealing of the roads is done finally, part last week and finished up Tuesday.
We came in Tuesday and couldn't even park to unload. I recall only 3 cards up to sign this week, one for Al Mason, new hip, and one for Judy Anselmen, she went to the hospital following a car accident she had, but is home now, and one for Rachel Kerr, she fell and broke her jaw, tripped over a hose. She doesn't have to have her jaws wired or anything though.
That new Bass Pro Shop in Harlingen is going to be huge! It's located just as you turn West off of Hwy 77 onto Exp. 83 to come West. The building is up and the parking lot looks like it's going to be huge.
I was watching the food patrol on channel 4, Sunrise Restaurant on N. Texas got 51 demerits....that's a bunch! also a Weslaco Stripes convenience store a lot of demerits (mice poop on food) That restaurant N. of us on the right hand side called El Jalisco got 56 demerits, it's close now, Back several months The Golden Coral and Kenos Restaurant got 48 and 31 demerits, also Weslaco Churches Chicken and Dennys around 21 demerits, let's hope they have cleaned up.
The weather in Iowa was so gorgeous, 50's 60's in the early morning upper 70's to low 80's in the afternoon...here it's the same every day, lows in the 80's highs in the upper 90's to low 100's. Dry here, need a rain bad.
That's it for now, start getting things set aside for your trip down

Friday morning

We are having a great time here.I have lots more pictures but the internet connection here is poor and it takes forever to upload them. This picture was taken when just a few of us went to Elcador,Ia. to shop. So many of the towns have such beautiful planters and flower beds, I took some pictures which I will have on a slide show for all just as soon as I get a better internet connection. The weather
is perfect for camping, Highs in the mid 70's - low 80's and the lows are 50's and 60's just wonderful!Mary Lou will have a neat Smile box slide show for you also.
Stan and Red Floyd provided the donuts this morning. One card up to sigh for John Bowers, back surgery.
A break-in at Sharon Bussingers, broke in thru a window and a t.v. was stolen, don't know what else

Greetings from Iowa

Hello from Iowa!! It's nice and cool here today and it's supposed to be in the 80's for several days, a few showers around but no storms! We left the Valley and spent a couple days in Corpus Cristi, with our Daughter, enjoyied touring the area around there and Port Aransas, then on up to Iowa!
My Sister, Mickey gave me a clock for my birthday...I love it!Just like the one on my home page of this blog!
We stayed 3 days at Saylorville recreation area. Mickey is living in Clive presently but moving to Minnesota. Her new puppy and our Heidi got along great.
It's pretty dry in parts of Iowa but it's so green looking that I was surprised they needed rain in some places so bad. There was a very nice shower in Coon Rapids yesterday but there were just a few spotty showers here in South Central Iowa.
We are in Carroll now for 3 more days out at Swan Lake State Park.Nice and shady here, a great campground. We will go on over to Clermont, Ia. Sunday.Today and tomarrow there is a sale or flea market all along highway 141 and also hwy. 30. People have tables and booths along the hwy. and you may stop and buy things, I think Hwy. 141 sales run from Grimes, (near DesMoines)all along to West of Carroll and farther yet, around 120 miles. I don't know how long the hwy 30 sales run, but they have this once a year, it's been very successful,it started out just on 141 but now hwy 30 too.I noticed some folks selling garden vegetables along a street the other day and they asked $5.95 a dozen for sweet corn.Mickey said this is the first of the sweet corn coming out so prices will drop as more is ready for sale.
When we were on our way from Saylorville to Carroll, we stopped in Perry,Ia. at the Hy-Vee for breakfast, with the idea that we might get to see some old friends, who used to winter in our park, Merlin and Nellie Davis. And sure enough we had just finished eating when Nellie and a bunch of friends came in, she did not know us at first, but was so excited when she finally knew who we were, she said Merlin is now in the Masonic Home there in Perry, she hadn't changes a bit and asked about all their friends in the park. That was fun!
We heard from the Barnharts that Hausers and Hamlets are back in the park. Also that Dave Berglunds hip surgery went well and is supposed to come home today. Doris Davis has been in the hospital but home now.Nancy Argo had her surgery and I assume she is doing good?
Sue said there were about 25 for coffee and donuts this morning and Davis's provided them.
Marilyn Babbitt says to besure and thank all of you who called, sent cards, and attended the funeral for Glenn.
We stopped in Jefferson today to see my friend Barb and Butch Brooker. They Winter in Texas at Magnolia Park. She is the lady who got me started in beading. she teaches classes and makes beautiful bracelets for sale. Now if I were savvy enuff I would put her blog in here , it's always interesting reading, but....I will see what I can do about that.
That's about it for now, until later this next week.
