Ken & Anita Farley..60years of marriage!
They provided the donuts ! There were about 20 folks there today.
Our golf cart was stolen last Friday afternoon. It was parked at the hall and 2 teenage boys took it and left the park on it. We haven't seen it since.
Manager Helen has said that Grand kids visiting will need to be checked in at the office, a visitor badge to wear, also no child unattended in the pool under 16, and considering closing the front gate earlier in the Summer, also a call to UPS to complain about the speed at which the UPS truck is going, way too fast!

May 27th

We had a couple sheds broken into this week. We hope that doesn't happen again. The people were notified about it. The 400's.

We had a big turnout for Social Hour this week, good snacks! I would guess 30 people came or so. This morning for donuts, 23 maybe. Marge and Rex Rexroad furnished them. Tom Duffy joined us this morning.

Our weather has been hot and humid and windy.

I made 2 cards this week, one for Gene & Phyllis Bouvet, they have both been having some serious health problems, and one for Hazel Bocock her husband , Bob in a nursing home has Cancer, and Hazel was planning a trip down here in a week or so but her Sister, Joann fell and broke her hip.

It's been real hazy and you can smell smoke in the air. Fires in South America they say.

Stan Floyd who had a new hip put in a month or more ago said she will get the other one done in a couple more months. Really looked like she was  getting along good.

Remember the Clothesline?

Great memories for some of us!

It's the poem at the end that's the best!!!

Remembering Mom's Clothesline

There is one thing that's left out.

We had a long wooden pole (clothes pole) that was used to push the clotheslines up

so that longer items (sheets/pants/etc.) didn't brush the ground and get dirty.

I can hear my mother now...

THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES:

(If you don't even know what clotheslines are, better skip this.)

1. You had to hang the socks by the toes... NOT the top.

2. You hung pants by the BOTTOM/cuffs... NOT the waistbands.

3. You had to WASH the clothesline(s) before hanging any clothes -

walk the entire length of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.

4. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang "whites" with "whites," and hang them first.

5. You NEVER hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by the tail!

What would the neighbors think?

6. Wash day on a Monday! NEVER hang clothes on the weekend,

or on Sunday, for Heaven's sake!

7. Hang the sheets and towels on the OUTSIDE lines so you could

hide your "unmentionables" in the middle (perverts & busybodies, y'know!)

8. It didn't matter if it was sub-zero weather... clothes would "freeze-dry."

9. ALWAYS gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes!

Pins left on the lines were "tacky"!

10. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item

did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the next washed item.

11. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes basket,

and ready to be ironed.

12. IRONED??!! Well, that's a whole OTHER subject!

And now a POEM...

A clothesline was a news forecast, to neighbors passing by,

There were no secrets you could keep, when clothes were hung to dry.

It also was a friendly link, for neighbors always knew

If company had stopped on by, to spend a night or two.

For then you'd see the "fancy sheets", and towels upon the line;

You'd see the "company table cloths", with intricate designs.

The line announced a baby's birth, from folks who lived inside,

As brand new infant clothes were hung, so carefully with pride!

The ages of the children could, so readily be known

By watching how the sizes changed, you’d know how much they'd grown!

It also told when illness struck, as extra sheets were hung;

Then nightclothes and a bathrobe too, haphazardly were strung.

It also said, "On vacation now", when lines hung limp and bare.

It told, "We're back!" when full lines sagged, with not an inch to spare!

New folks in town were scorned upon, if wash was dingy and gray,

As neighbors carefully raised their brows, and looked the other way.

But clotheslines now are of the past, for dryers make work much less.

Now what goes on inside a home, Is anybody's guess!

I really miss that way of life, it was a friendly sign

When neighbors knew each other best... By what hung on the line.

Friday, May 17th

Good morning!

Opal & Martha provided the donuts this morning. Bill Clement made the coffee. We had a small group today, around 20.
I made a card for Pam White, she had to put her dog, Lucas, down.
Saturday night ladies at the Elks got their meal half price in honor of Mother's Day. We had a big group from R.V.E. Fred Goldsberry played as usual and he has lost 65 lbs . He's looking so good.
Nothing much to report today.
Low 90's today, windy, very humid, and about the same for the next week.

Let me know if there's a need for a card for anyone!

I hope everyone has a nice Mother's Day!

We went to the park breakfast yesterday. It was nice. very good turn out and we got serenaded.
There is one card to sign for John Bowers, he was in the hospital. If anyone has news on how he's doing let us know. I will be doing cards until Irene gets back in June.
Harell and Betty Aderton provided the donuts this morning. I would guess close to 27 folks came this morning.
Mgr.Helen asked if anyone minded if the buildings were locked at 9:00 instead of 10:00 in the evenings, everyone seemed ok with that as when there's people playing cards when they come to lock up we just go out the West card room door and it locks behind us.
It was a warm muggy 77 degrees this morning supposed to be 92 later and late afternoon a cold front is to come in
and we are to get rain during the night and the weekend. They are saying 1 to 2 inches.

Okay okay, it's not a perfect day here ,quite windy and  it's only going to get in the 60's today and tommarrow even colder.
I got an email from the Sutherlands, their sweet little dog "Buddy" died. They will sure miss him, and I know how they are feeling right now.
There are no cards up for us to sign, which is a good thing.
The guys here in the park are busy mowing. It is nice to see the grass growing again! and the lawns looking better.
This is a picture of our "Angelonia" plant. We also have another variety of them but this one is my favorite

FYI
