RVE CLUB MEETING – Chair Judy Nordquist called meeting to order.

MANAGEMENT REPORT: Manager Dan O’Dell announced $10 per month rate increase in mobile home rent effective March 1. He thanked all for contributing in any way, such as mysterious man who did work in #3 stall & people who have volunteered to do painting. Appreciation was given to chairpersons for events. Board Members -- Properties – Ron Zoeller, Lynn Stamp, Mark Probst; Finance – Sandy Novak, Gordon Amos, Sandy Olson. If you have issues you’d like to present or discuss, you may contact them.
Treasurer Gordon Amos gave his report & it was approved.
Mark Probst gave Properties report. Grease trap has been installed in sink on north side of kitchen. Directions are posted nearby. Sink on left is where you rinse food off dishes as that flows into grease trap. Middle sink is for washing & last sink for rinsing. Ice machine needing cleaning & we have service contract on that. Concerning chairs, there is difference of opinion on which are best. Seems we can’t satisfy everyone. 😊 If you see one you like, for example in another park, you could either bring it here to try or get info on it.
Dance chair Craig Daves reports tonight’s music is a favorite of many, Diego & Edith. Cost is $7 pp. Free popcorn, soda pop for sale, 50-50 draw.

FREE MOVIE this Thursday is “Send Me No Flowers” starring Doris Day, Rock Hudson & hilarious Tony Randall. With Valentine’s Day on Friday, we should show a movie with love & laughter. Movie starts 7 p.m. There will be popcorn, variety of ice cream treats, sodas, water for sale before & during intermission.
Denise Cheek invites residents to enjoy potluck before Thursday movie. Eat at 5:30, bring dish to share.
Entertainment chair Marylyn Mason thanks residents for support. Rick McEwin was enjoyed by all who came last week. He sang mostly requests the 2nd half of his show. Come this Friday for “Rusty Rockers”. This is music from 50-60-70 & oldies. There will be chairs for listeners, plus tables for those who may wish to dance. Cost is $8 pp. 50-50 draw, ice cream treats for sale at intermission. Popcorn available!!

A card has gone up for Sharyl Krantz who had surgery.

Honorees were: Dave & Kathy Cochran (50); Craig & Dana Daves, Ron & Lois Henderson, Ed & Charilyn Hover, Chuck & Nancy Gonnerman, Marv & Mary Weeder (all 55); Gordon & Joyce Amos (60) and Ray & Margaret Davis (75). Congratulatons to all!! Sandy Novak did an outstanding job as emcee with some fun questions for each couple. John Norris was on hand to take pictures. We enjoyed special music by April Walling.

Linda Palermo chairs Feb. 20 Veterans’ Dinner with meal at noon. Menu is chicken plus your favorite pie. Doors open at 11:15, not before please. Table service is provided. Cost is $10 pp. Final day for ticket sales is Feb. 17. This event is OPEN to all. Raffles & 50-50 draw tickets are $1 ea., 6 for $5. Theme is USO Show. Proceeds will go to Camp Corral.

The theme of Feb. 27 dance is Mexican Fiesta according to chair Kathy Cochran. Tickets at $10 pp or $80/table are being sold beginning today. Gather your friends; put one person in charge of money to make it easier on ticket sellers. You may purchase individual tickets if you wish. Table coverings & table service are provided. BYOB & cups. Prizes will be given for best decorated tables. Doors open at 5 p.m. Menu includes charro beans as appetizer, taco salad, dessert. Fred Goldsberry will play.

The ROPA Style Show will be held in big hall Friday, March 13, 1 p.m. You may model some “treasure hunt” bargains you have from ROPA, thrift store, garage sale, etc. Men as well as women can participate. Chair Pat Printy who “frequents” ROPA almost weekly has items you may model if you just stop by at #210. If you’d like to help, see sign up sheet. An announcement of contest will be made next Monday.

Prior to meeting, Stroke Prevention rep “Stu” spoke. If wanting this Feb. 11 test, you need to sign up in advance. Offered are three wellness tests .. stroke/carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm & peripheral arterial tests at $110. Complete wellness package that includes osteoporosis test is $140. Single tests are $50.

MANAGEMENT REPORT: Manager Dan O’Dell spoke briefly about some of the “things he loves” in RVE. Included arenew flag on pole, blue chalk marks on ceiling in pool room, lubricated hinges, coffee at 5:15 a.m., donated bags of rags, unsung heroes in park, & community involvement .. and “hearing from all of us”. Treasurer Gordon Amos gave his report & it was approved. Properties chair Ron Zoeller thanked George Mason for his repairs to rope lighting. Our projector had vertical lines when used yesterday; something wrong inside unit & Ron taking to Office Depot for repair. Concerning kitchen grease trap, we would buy unit, owners pay to install. We approved purchase of trap. Ron still recycles on Tuesdays and requests we NOT tie plastic bags. The carryout plastic boxes are not accepted by recycling.

Rex Rexroad asked if there is 1st aid kit in kitchen. Reply was “yes”. Kits may need to be upgraded, resupply one in card room.

FREE MOVIE this Thursday is Appollo 13 featuring Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon in this Ron Howrd film which was awarded 9 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Movie starts at 7 p.m. with cartoon preceding feature. There will be popcorn, variety of ice cream, soda & water for sale before movie & during intermission.

Many residents remained after morning meeting to hear Ronda Lewis speak about the newly opened Micro-Hospital in Weslaco. This is located on Exp 83 between Westgate Drive & Border Avenue & is the first of its kind such facility in the Rio Grande Valley. It has a full service emergency department including 12 ED beds, 2 trauma beds, unit with 8 inpatient beds; laboratory, pharmacy, imaging & respiratory services. Many questions were answered this morning. It has capability to transfer test results to neuro-vascular doctors. The micro-hospital accepts almost every insurance, is affiliated with Valley Baptist & accepts VA patients.

RVE CLUB MEETING – Chair Judy Nordquist called meeting to order. We recited “Pledge to the Flag” & sang “God Bless America”. Meeting closed by singing club song, ”We Love Our Valley Home”.

MANAGEMENT REPORT: Manager Dan O’Dell spoke about “fly in the ointment which affects everyone’s safety, security, comfort & enhanced fun”, their primary goals since beginning as managers. Grease was found in kitchen sanitary waste system & he suggested properties committee could purchase 5-10 gal. grease trap. There has been abuse of all park toilets, problems in bath house in back of 99s, including washing of dogs which stops up drain system with hair & feces. Keep your eyes & ears open. He ended with “Let’s take care of what we love. Report to management if you see something that isn’t right.” Website for park is riovalleyestates.com

Re-elected February & March club chair was Judy Nordquist. Vice chair will be Jim Moeller.


Treasurer Gordon Amos gave his report & it was approved. Properties chair Ron Zoeller showed a new printed club song sign, will be purchasing another. After counting small tables in game room, he felt we’re ok with what we have. Three new larger round tables have been purchased. Ron takes recycling on Tuesdays, leaving his #153 lot at 1 p.m. He stated no foam or hard plastic, only soft plastic, cardboard. Newspapers need to be boxed separately. Plastic bags are appreciated by Judy Nordquist for her mat project. Take aluminum cans to area behind big hall where they are crushed & recycled. No free movie or potluck this week due to Sock Hop. Bill Jones will be showing movie Feb. 20 as Ron will be sailing the ocean.

Ron will check to see if system still works to show Super Bowl. We need someone to organize Super Bowl if this is to be shown in hall.

Entertainment chair Marylyn Mason thanked residents who came to last week’s entertainment. This Friday show The Baker Family, advertised as hard core bluegrass. Cost is $8 pp. Judi DeKoning has printed cards with entire schedule. You may pick these up when you enter hall for show. 50-50 draw, ice cream treats for sale at intermission. Popcorn available!!

Dance chair Craig Daves said 154 people came to last Monday’s dance, the largest crowd we’ve ever had. Come tonight to enjoy Richard Lynch Band, $7 pp. Free popcorn, soda pop for sale, 50-50 draw.

If you like warm weather I hope you are  down here in the Rio Grand Valley!!! We have lows in the low 70's,  yes for our lows, can you believe it?!!!!!! Highs in the low to mid 80!!! It's supposed to be for all this week and a change coming for Sunday. I wish it would stay like this all Winter.

MANAGEMENT REPORT: Manager Craig Daves announced “Dana & I have resigned from management of park. It was time for us to have fun. We wish the new team good luck.” Dana added, “Thank you for your support. I have enjoyed working with residents.” New managers are Dan & Jan O’Dell. Dan said their primary concerns are “safety, security, comfortable experience while in this park & enhanced experience of your FUN.” He asked whoever owns the Big Tex trailer in storage area to move it so George Krantz can get his truck out (swap places). A container of meds has been found. If it is yours, pick up at office. Treasurer Gordon Amos gave his report & it was approved. Properties chair Ron Zoeller thanked George Morgan for completing the vinyl work in kitchen under coffee pots. He said 114 came out each of the past two Saturdays for breakfast cooked by the board. We seem to be missing some short tables in pool room. When Ron gets a count, we may possibly purchase more of these.

Entertainment chair Marylyn Mason thanked residents who came to last week’s entertainment. She tells us this week’s Friday entertainment is Bill Christil. Cost is $8 pp. Judi DeKoning has printed cards with entire schedule. You may pick these up when you enter hall for show.

Come to dance tonight with Roger Kenaston Band, $7 pp. Free popcorn, soda pop for sale, 50-50 draw. A fellow who is celebrating his 84th birthday will be attending along with 40 friends so should be a huge crowd! Come on out ..

Concerning Bean Bag Fiasco, Jim Moeller reported the bags that left a dust problem on floor have been returned to Academy for full refund .. so he could buy “not so messy” polyethylene calcium pellet bags. It is hoped this takes care of the issue. Thanks, Jim, for all your running around with these bags ... and for the comedy we enjoyed at today’s meeting!

Ladies Salad Luncheon is Wed., Jan. 15, noon. Each person should bring a salad dish & $1, table service provided. See sign up sheet in hall. 6 table decorations will be given away. Chairs are Judy Shively, Judy Greenlee, Jean Stamp….the 3 J’s.

1st movie of season will be this Thursday, Jan. 16. It is a Walt Disney movie featuring Dennis Quaid, based on a true story of Jim Morris .. “The Rookie”. Cartoon at 7 p.m. followed by feature. Movie is free. There will be popcorn, ice cream treats, sodas, water for sale before & during intermission.

Denise Cheek announced Potluck will be held prior to movie, 5:30 p.m. Bring own dishes & food to share. Table set up at 4:30 p.m.

Jan. 23 is the Sock Hop with theme 10th Class Reunion. Buy tickets $6 pp or $48/table from Barnharts…can buy individual tickets, don’t have to purchase entire table. MANAGEMENT REPORT: Manager Craig told us Dana had sinus surgery this week, recovering at home. The hot tub & pool are both up & running. If you are expecting packages, please check at office as there are a “ton” of packages there.

Treasurer Gordon Amos gave his report & it was approved. Properties chair Ron Zoeller reported linoleum in bottom of cupboards needs replacing. He has leftover vinyl to be used & looking for someone who can “get on knees” to install. Board member Lynn Stamp showed a folding chair for folks to try for comfort, could be ordered at cost of $41-42 plus shipping & tax. Will talk about this next Monday. It was mentioned storage might be a problem.

Entertainment chair Marylyn Mason thanked all who came to Friday’s program featuring Cleckler Elementary kids. Over $600 proceeds went to the school. First entertainment of 2020 will be Jan. 10 with Kody Norris Band. Cost is $8 pp.

Monday night dances begin Jan. 6 with Hot Rodz playing, $7 pp.

Judy Shively has begun a Late Riser’s Walking Exercise activity 10 a.m. Monday through Friday in the quilting area. This is an inside walking by VCR tape & does not replace the 7:30 a.m. walking exercise. Would be Jan. thru March.

Continue to save plastic bags (example HEB or Walmart) to give to Judy Nordquist, for her mat project.

Like to learn to shuffle? Chair Dave Johnson is gone until Jan. 4. In his absence Jim Moeller & LeRoy Larson will help if you’d like to learn….Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday mornings,

Vic Greenlee reports he has a John Denver 2 hour DVD filmed a couple years prior to Denver’s death. He said possibly this could be shown on a Thursday movie night if enough interest.

Bill Jones is wondering if some might like to play Card Bingo. It was suggested he bring cards for this on New Year’s Eve so folks could give it a try. Would need date & time if interest in this game

This Week:

George & Sharyl Krantz chair Christmas Day Dinner. Plan to eat at 1 p.m. Meal is buffet style. Sign up please. Include in your count any guests who may be attending with you. Decorate tables when you see the committee has tables covered. Bring your own table service.

New Year’s Eve Party will be held in Friendship Hall Dec. 31. Everyone come help set up & clean up, bring your favorite games .. no committee needed.

Flea Market is Jan. 10, 8 to noon, according to Sue McLaughlin in chair Lucy Johnson’s absence. If you can furnish a pie, do so. Write over toward right of sign up sheet how many tables you need.

Ken Barnhart reminded us to put Jan. 23 on the calendar…it’s the 10th year of RVE’s Sock Hop! Theme is 10th Class Reunion so dress to impress your classmates. Bring a graduation picture (or close to that time). Tickets go on sale Jan. 6 at $6 pp or $48 for table. Prizes will be given for best decorated table. Committee is working on a slide show of memories from past 9 years.
