Mason City Get-together

In the absence of Clermont and Iowa Pot Luck, some of us have decided to do a Winter Texan Midwest Get-Together . It'll be held in Mason City Iowa on July 9th, 10th and 11th. Some of us are arriving Thursday the 8th. On Friday we'll venture to Hansel to the Town's End Winery and Vineyards. They have quite a place, and depending on response, we may plan more for when we're there. Beyond that, this is not a formal organized weekend.. We'll get together and enjoy socializing. (There's a lot to do in the area.) .. there's a small campground right in town that gets good reviews.. Margaret Mac Nider Park .. The Benson's and I have reservations at the Quality Inn and Suites (link in comments). Would be nice to know how many are interested; we'll need number for the Winery for reservations and planning. Plan on a fun weekend!

April 3rd

 Happy Easter!

Well, another season coming to an end. A season to remember. Not being able to mingle that much & not going to favorite restaurants, not being able to dine with a group etc. Lots of entertainers cancelled, very few dances. Some events down here cancelled until this Summer. Also missing our Canadian friends!!!Our Management says our big hall will open July 1st. So maybe we will get to have something for the 4th.

And of course we all will never forget the "freeze" , that was awful. Trying to find a motel with electric and then finding out they were booked up...it was a very cold 44 degrees in my house one afternoon, lost my Lime tree and flowers. Now trying to decide what to plant on the East side. I am going to do away with all the flower beds which were  full length of the mobile on the West side and just let grass grow up to the house.

Our hot tub is out of commission, I understand for most of the Summer.

Every day there are folks leaving, heading North! Lots went in time for Easter.

There is a buying frenzy everywhere you go, WalMart, grocery stores, restaurants, traffic is terrible. I assume many people have never gotten so much money in their lives. When I was out to Wal  Mart today, people carrying out T.V.s B.B.Q.ers etc. Easter stuff flying off the shelves. Lots of familys shopping.

I will try to write more often, but will be doing some traveling this Summer. Facebook for news is always a good place to check on whats happening here in the park.

Virgil White has sold his mobile to be moved out. It looks like Monday or so it will be out. Also Goodwins sold their park model and it's being readied to be moved out also. My park model is being moved out but dont know when they will get it moved.

Safe travels to all and hurry back!

Lillian Bosch

Such a terrible site, tree after tree in orchards looking like this. Also all our plants around the park  will surely die, drooping brown leaves and fruit on the ground.I understand that 80% of the oranges were already harvested and 67% of grapefruit. Losses of a number of vegetable crops also, including swiss chard, cabbage, beets, celery and cilantro and more. Lemons and lime trees were completely distroyed, as they can not take the freeze. As far as citrus it will be a wait and see. The long lines at the gas stations were really a crazy site, many heard of refinery outages. Some needing fuel for their generators. The outages lasted several days and some in our park got electric on and some didnt finally after 3 or 4 days we got electric. The temps plunged to 21 degrees in parts of the valley, I understand that ERGOT pulled the plug on about 131,000 of us here and millions across Texas, A huge energy demand and overloads and the frozen utility plants are blamed for the outages. Also people panicked at the grocery stores,  many many empty shelves as they hoarded food. So much craziness!

I get my second Covid vaccine tomarrow. I hope the weather is a little better than today. We had a cold front come in and it's been drizzling and cold. I think in the 50's for  lows tonight.  We have had upper 70's and 80's after the freeze, hope this will be one of the last real cold fronts as Spring has come here., except for today and tomarrow, The Purple Martins are back and chattering away happily.

Hope you all come down next year, we will have to make up for this year with lots of fun things to do!!!!

Note

What a weird looking building  going up on Westgate and the express on the North side of the express on the corner,

It's a Lawyers office.

The other new thing right across the street from the Lawyers office was that chicken wing place that went out of business, it is now going to be a Schlotskeys, sp? I guess it's something like a Subway?

Just what we need!!!!

What we really need is a Hobby Lobby or Joann's Fabrics would be nice, right ladies?

Linda Witt Obituary

Obituary

Linda Dianne Witt, age 76, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.

Linda was born on January 8, 1945 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and Elouise (Walter) Gardner.  She attended Moravia schools and graduated from Moravia High School with the Class of 1963.  On March 21, 1964, she was united in marriage to Paul Dean Witt at the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia.  To this union, three children were born, Rod, Denise and Carie.

Linda loved creating things, and did so when she was a floral designer for many years.  When her children were young, she was always involved in their activities.  She loved being a room mother at school when the kids were younger.  Linda also taught Girl Scouts in Moravia for a period of time, and attended the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia for many years.  She loved being an active member of the Hospital Auxiliary in Centerville for many years, designing flower arrangements and anything else she could help with.

Linda loved having family get togethers on the weekends.  Most importantly, she loved her family deeply, and was always mindful of her grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities.  She loved watching sports, and later in life, she began golfing, which she became very good at.  Linda thoroughly enjoyed sitting on her porch with Paul drinking coffee, and watching the animals. She had a kind heart, and could get along with anyone.

Left to cherish Linda’s memory are her husband of almost 57 years, Paul Witt of Centerville; her children, Rod (Shari) Witt of Centerville, Denise (Stuart) DeBruin of Albia, and Carie Leon of Centerville; six grandchildren, Bailey (Ryan) Sales Brandon (Shaniel) DeBruin, Hannah (Cale) Childers, Sydney (Fiance' Andy) DeBruin, Taylor Marienau, and Claire Marienau; two great grandchildren, Toryn Sales and Orlo DeBruin; siblings, Yvonne (Paul) Horel of Olathe, Kansas, Rita (and the late, Maurice) Paradis of Kensington, Connecticut, and Dennis (Jennifer) Gardner of Moravia, Iowa; as well as several other family members.
