October 24th

A Halloween Party coming up! Our Happy Hours are going good and so are Donut Fridays. Mardel Blom provided the last Friday donuts and Phyllis and George the week before, the last one will be this coming Friday with the office buying. The first Monday morning meeting will be on  Nov. 6th. We had the Park  Pizza at Mr Gattis last Friday.

When the pool was first painted it was hard to stand up, so slick, and the steps slippery. Pool shoes were needed. Now the pool surface is not slippery, must be a chemical reaction or something. But glad it's much safer now.

Wayne Carter passed away Oct. 8th, he will be missed forsure. And just heard that Billie Wells passed on Oct. 19th, Bruce and Billie were here in 2012 and I think until 2019, I could be wrong. I have a card up for Marge Reishus, I understand she had a pacemaker put in.

Well, I guess I will make park badges for another year, $2:00 a piece. I found some neat magnetic ones but they are kind of pricey. If someone wants one they will have to pay $5.00 for them.

I am still making cards for the park, so if you know of someone needing a card let me know. But I inherited doing pictures for the Veterans board and will not be doing that, so someone needs to take over. We have a lot of Veterans who have not given me a picture for the board, if you submit one to who ever takes over,  put your full name, rank at discharge and years of service, for printing under your picture.

this Summer heat has really burned up some of our yards, brown patches everywhere, hopefully if we get more rain they will come out of it. We got a little shower this A.M.

October 7th

Mariachi Mariposas, created with the goal of giving women mariachi an opportunity to showcase their talent, has gone above and beyond by breaking barriers in the male-dominated genre by creating their own traditions and legacy.

Would love to hear the  all female Mariachis

Finally got a cool front...and some rain. I just walked my puppy and it felt pretty darn cool, 75. tonight a low of 69.  This coming week average highs , low 80's  and lows of upper 60's and low 70's

Our park looks pretty nice,  I noticed Thursday when I went to bingo at Ranchero Village, their yard in front of their office looks bad compared to ours. Poorly kept. Big trees in front and lots of twigs on the ground, no grass. I go to Southern comfort for Bingo in the Summer and they have a beautiful entrance. It makes a nice impression when that's the first thing you see when coming in to the Park. I'm wondering why the painting of the buildings stopped, only a small portion painted.

We had a very good Happy Hour Wed. and  Karen Catron bought donuts Fri.
Just a few more Fridays. and the Office buys the last time. so after the end of the month we will go to Mondays for donuts and coffee. and the meeting.

Besure and thank Carol Noble, lot 69 for the lovely valances she made for us. she was there putting them up earlier this summer, getting up on the ladder and doing it all by herself. Very nice work. She's suggesting new blinds also and said she would put them up also, so probably after more folks get here we will talk about that then.

John and Dale Norris are here, Dales Brother, Wayne Carter is in hospice, so sorry to hear that. Tom Catron will be in re-hab until the 18th and Sue Barnhart is doing good and I look for her home real soon. Cathy Probsts father passed away. My friend , Jack, fell and ambulance took him to the hospital, nothing broken and was released a day after. Jacks real name is John Wayne Kelly, I found that out early this Summer when he did have to go to Re-hab. He lives at 401 and he has no living relatives. Pretty sad situation. He is quite hard of hearing but if you see him out on his porch stop and just say Hi, he would love that. He has a terrible condition called Lymphodema which his legs are swollen about 3 times the size they should be, makes it so hard to get around. He said he's had it for 60 years.

Sept. 29

Our club song dates back many years ago.

We will be having good chances of rain starting today and most days this coming week, highs below 100, we will have to get our jackets out Ha Ha! Our yards are looking pretty bad, lots of large brown areas, hoping they will green up.

They finally finished the overlay on the streets yesterday. Everything looking good here in the park.  3 new air cons for the big hall  were put in this Summer. The pool looks nice but it's very slick so besure to bring pool shoes.

We had our first Wed. Happy Hour, over 24 attended and we just brought fingerr food. Sorry to say Sue Barnhart didnt make it as she was in the hospital for back problems then going to ReHab. She was encouraging us to come to Happy Hour and get  it going again. We just didnt have enough folks to attend this Summer.

We have had a few folks coming in already for the Winter. My good neighbors, Del and Bonnie Hicky came in and also good friend Mardel Blom. Spragues are here now and Judy Dekoning.

This morning was our Friday donuts, furnished by Patty Lamp, I picked them up for her at H.E.B. and they were nice and fresh, they now have Apple Fritters!

I have been an Elk member for 29 years, I joined since Bobby kept dragging his feet, so glad I joined.

The Elks do so much for the Community, they support youth,  serve Veterans, and meet needs of poor people in the Community. The Elks have joined forces with Donate Life America, to increase donations of organs, eyes, and tissue. They help physically handicapped children, they give scholarships, and have a drug awareness program, and observe Flag day which the Elks started in 1907 & it was later adopted by congress as an official observance. Maybe think about joining here in Weslaco, you would be very welcome at other Elks clubs all over the U.S.

Their mobile sold real fast.

Sept 12, 2023

Thanks for the comments from some of you who read my blog.

So sorry to hear Jackie Jacobs passed away.

Well, the heat continues, over 77 days of 100 or more temps. I hope most of the lawns with those dead grass spots will green up once we get some decent rains.

Watched the tree trimmers trim the palms, can't hardly tell they trimmed them. Today the men were blowing the streets and gutters, a coat of paint was put on the pool deck. Still lots of painting to do on the hall.

Quite a few  people in the pool at night, visitors I assume, as there's always kids with them. Funny how I was told we couldnt go over to our  sister park, was told "Liability" I guess maybe one or two would have wanted to go over, we go for Bingo over there, and a few years ago we were told we could go over there any time and use any of the facilities, infact one time our former assistant mgr. and I went over to their and used their tread mills.

Still a lot of mobiles being remodeled, I wonder who will pay the high dollar thats being asked, Some are $75 k and 150k. and one being remodeled now will probably go for  a lot more.

August 22nd

Weather - The Rio Grande Valley's News Channel

You can see for yourself what our weather is doing.  Here in the lower Valley is just a slight chance for flooding. Possible only 1 - 3 inches of rain. It comes in waves. It's moving very fast at 18 mph. Winds are not to be a problem for us in the Valley. 10 mph on the average and gusts up to 50mph

Just looked to see how many hits to my blog last month 1713,  I wish I could see who all does view the blog.

A big shout out to Aileen Mittleberg, I understand she enjoys reading the blog and hope they are doing ok. I have her "secret" recipe for her Beanbarn Cornbread!!! It is really good with a pot of ham and beans !!!! remember they had the little place at the Flea Market and served the beans and cornbread. Also later had the popcorn and remembering how we got to have some of that here in the park left after the flea market.

Let me know if you have left the park and still read the blog, you may comment here. It will be interesting to see who all reads the blog yet.

I have been thinking of selling my mobile, too much outside work, along the mobile, 61 feet of flower beds and in the back where the orange tree was and also where the grapefruit tree was are about 3 foot squares around the tree stumps with plants growing, but mostly weeds! Also along the mobile were a lot of "Pentas" which were beautiful until the terrible heat which started  over 2 months, they looked sick, and weedy so I found a great lawn care man to take all of the flower beds out and also on the patio and put plastic down and white rocks, no more flower beds! His name is Diego and he came with his wife at 8:a.m. and they left at 5:00 p.m. worked continually in the 100 degree temps, he does a lot of work in the parks especially 1015 park. there was a sink outside to wash up in before you come in and I had him take that out and cap the water pipe to it. He is reasonable folks, so if you want all the weeding done before you get here or after, I can give you his cell no. Btw his wife worked just as hard as he did!

I will write more soon!

oh, I have a new puppy, a Yorkie, her name is Mia

August 11th

Time is going fast until all the winter folks will be returning.

A note from Gil, one of our lawnmower guys

Gil is going to charge everyone $30.00 a month for lawnmowing starting in October.

He does a great job

We have 2 new air-condioners for the big hall.

I have had to bring my own tape player for aqua sizing, which i do only occasionally. The one player quit completely and also the tapes are bad.

We need rain sooo bad also heat of 100 for over 55 days or more, grass is like shredded wheat!

I got donuts this morning, very few coming up.
