Sorry to hear that Paul White passed away this morning. If you wish to send a card use the address in our book as their mail gets picked up each day and taken to the nursing home.

We got 3 to 4 inches of rain today!!! Our lawn mowers will really be workin out.

We finally got some measurable rain yesterday and supposed to get a little today, but I think it's mainly drizzle. We had a heavy fog this morning. The yards look greener already. The Weatherman mentioned the other day that we are in the "rainy" season, I did't know there was such a season down here, it seems more like a dessert most of the time. We need 30inches of rain to get us back to normal, but don't think that will happen. It was quite cool here yeasterday and so far this morning.
    We had over 34 for coffee and donuts this morning . Doris Davis and Larry Dixon provided them.
    There are cards to sign , one to Kathy Cochran , her Brother died, one to Paul White, who fell, a message about Dale Cleland being quite ill.
    Manager Helen mentioned if we have guests coming and the gate is closed , please go up to let them in as they do  not want to just open the gate for anyone they don't know. The kitchen ceiling is done thanks to Gary Philipps,  help, and to Roberto and Alex.
     Tom and Mary Lou Benson are leaving this morning. There are still a few folks here but for the most part everyone has returned to their Summer homes.
Don't know what we are doing for Mother's Day yet, we will probably discuss it next Friday.
    I won't post anything until Friday unless something comes up that I think you might be interested in. Have a great week

FYI

I sent out all the pictures that you all gave me envelopes for...hope you all recieved yours...I had to spend over $43.00 on additional postage for those of you who thought you had enuff postage put on . I have a list and receipts for each one mailed. It took a very long time at the Post Office.. sorry we were the last park phtographed, some pictures had to be retouched becuz of glasses glare, we had over 200 settings this year, but someone had to be last I guess.We never had this problem of getting our pictures so late before. I gave some people picture pkgs. for some who will be in touch with each other this Summer.

Friday April 12th

This morning was our first Friday Coffee and Donuts and Conversation. Most of you know we dont
 hold "meetings" as such but do get together every Friday and visit and this first Friday the Office provided the donuts, after this the folks here in the park take a turn at providing the donuts and making the coffee, it's always a great time for fellowship. and we hear news about any folks needing cards and if any of us hears of info we all may be interested in, we share the news.
also we plan future parties for us Summer folks to enjoy. We have not had the managers or asst. managers join us on Fridays and so it was harder to get info that might concern us or also would enjoy hearing about news from management and now we will be blessed with management taking part in the conversations on Fridays.
We are in Roswell New Mexico. I hope we dont come upon any "Aliens" the scenery here is quite different then what we are used to seeing, so many alhalfa fields, cotton ,corn, and oh yes "Chili Peppers!" Of couse the fields have to be irrigated. And guess what else?Roswell is the worlds largest mozzarelli cheese producer.Cheese for Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa John's and string cheese sold all across the nation! And the UFO museum...was the 1947 sightings of UFO's real? a hoax or a government cover up.
Well, so much for our adventure we are moving on in the morning for an even more terrific place, Las Vegas!!!!

Ken's Martin house is quite busy! He got Martins quite a bit earlier than us and I threatened to make him give us back the Martin house Bobby built for him,
and erect it in our yard, but finally the Martins came!!!

Next Friday will be the first Coffee and Donuts time in the card room with the Office providing them. We won't be there. Vegas time!!

Irene made cards for Ruth Cochran, shingles, plus very poor health, John Bowers, hosp. Nellie Davis, former resident, her husband died, Dale Cleland has colon issues and to have surgery, Larry Dixon's sister died.

The pictures are to get here today,finally!  If you get yours in the mail and they aren't what you ordered or you are short pictures whatever the problem you will have to call Creative Images not us!! We just make the pictures for the directory, arrange the pictures, do the appontments and distribute pictures and directorys when they come.
A note from Manager Helen if you have units to rent let the office know and phone no.s where you can be reached as quite a few people call asking if there's anything to rent in our park.
We didn't get any measurable precipitation last week, surprise surprise. So very dry here yet.
It's very quiet here now!

Well, our last newsletter and last club meeting was today. So many have left and more leaving this week. It sure has been a busy year! It will seem awfully quiet around here but somewhat welcome!
What a wonderful Easter Dinner we had! thanks so much to The Argo's & Committee for all their work! 210 folks in attendance.Thanks to all the great dishes everyone prepared! You would not believe the dessert tables!

Also many thanks go to Dianna B. & Catherine G. and all who did the lovely Easter decorations and to the set up and tear down crews for their part.

I talked to the photographer folks today, they are saying the end of this week, for us to get all the pictures.

We had a very short meeting this morning, Martha Millender gave the invocation, The managers were present with a short report, saying we are going to have a new code for the gate openers and next Fall folks will have to bring in their remotes to get them changed.  Also the wifi will have a new password. Mary gave her treasurors report, we voted for us year-arounders  to have some Summer money and for Bill Hamlet to fill in for Ken Barnhart. Ken & Sue Barnhart are the new Asst. Managers so Ken can't serve on the Properties committee.

Sure will miss you all!

Fenders Skirts & Supper

FENDER SKIRTS AND SUPPER

I know some of you will not understand this message,

but I bet you know someone who might.

I came across this phrase yesterday.

'FENDER SKIRTS'

A term I haven't heard in a long time, and thinking about

'fender skirts' started me thinking

about other words that quietly disappear from

our language with hardly a notice like 'curb feelers'

And 'steering knobs.' (AKA)

'suicide knob,' 'neckers knobs.'

Since I'd been thinking of cars,

my mind naturally went that direction first.

Any kids will probably have to find some older person

over 50 to explain some of these terms to you.

Remember 'Continental kits?'

They were rear bumper extenders and spare tire covers

that were supposed to make any car

as cool as a Lincoln Continental.

When did we quit calling them 'emergency brakes?

At some point 'parking brake' became the proper term.

But I miss the hint of drama that went with 'emergency brake.'

I'm sad, too, that almost all the old folks are gone

who would call the accelerator the 'foot feed.'

Many today do not even know what a clutch is

or that the dimmer switch used to be on the floor.

For that matter, the starter was down there too.


Didn't you ever wait at the street for your daddy

to come home, so you could ride the

'running board' up to the house?

Here's a phrase I heard all the time in my youth

but never anymore - 'store-bought.'

Of course, just about everything is store-bought these days.

But once it was bragging material to have a

store-bought dress or a store-bought bag of candy.


'Coast to coast' is a phrase that once held all sorts

of excitement and now means almost nothing.

Now we take the term 'worldwide' for granted.

This floors me.

On a smaller scale, 'wall-to-wall' was once

a magical term in our homes. In the '50s,

everyone covered his or her hardwood floors with,

wow, wall-to-wall carpeting!

Today, everyone replaces their wall-to-wall carpeting

with hardwood floors. Go figure.

When was the last time you heard the quaint phrase

'in a family way?' It's hard to imagine that the word 'pregnant'

was once considered a little too graphic,

a little too clinical for use in polite company,

so we had all that talk about stork visits and

'being in a family way' or simply 'expecting.'


Apparently 'brassiere' is a word no longer in usage.

I said it the other day and my daughter cracked up.

I guess it's just 'bra' now.

'Unmentionables' probably wouldn't be understood at all.

I always loved going to the 'picture show,'

but I considered 'movie' an affectation.


Most of these words go back to the '50s,

but here's a pure '60s word I came across

the other day 'rat fink.' Ooh, what a nasty put-down!

Here's a word I miss - 'percolator.'

That was just a fun word to say.

And what was it replaced with 'Coffee maker.'

How dull... Mr. Coffee, I blame you for this.

I miss those made-up marketing words that were

meant to sound so modern and now sound so retro.

Words like 'Dyna Flow' and 'Electrolux' and 'Frigidaire'.

Food for thought.

Was there a telethon that wiped out lumbago?

Nobody complains of that anymore.

Maybe that's what Castor oil cured,

because I never hear mothers threatening kids

with Castor Oil anymore.

Some words aren't gone, but are definitely

on the endangered list.

The one that grieves me most is 'supper.'

Now everybody says 'dinner.' Save a great word.

Invite someone to supper. Discuss fender skirts.
