Will Rogers was one of the greatest political
sages
this country has ever known. Some of his sayings
..
“Eventually
you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start
bragging about it.”
“The
older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.”
(including Walmart?)
“When you
are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of
Algebra.”
“You know
you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.”
“I don't
know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.”
“One of
the many things no one tells you about aging is that it's such a nice
change from being young. Being young is beautiful, but being old is
comfortable.”
Think about these ..
English
is a crazy language and difficult to master.
Let's face it. There is neither egg in eggplant nor
ham in hamburger, neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English
muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France.
Sweetmeats
are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.
Quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, a guinea pig is
neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
If
the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth?
One goose, 2 geese .. so one moose, 2 meese?
How
can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and
a wise guy are opposites?
You
have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house
can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling
it out, and in which an alarm goes off by going on.
People,
not computers, invented English & it reflects the creativity of
the human race, which is not a race at all. That is why, when the
stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they
are invisible. I'm sew confused.
A couple of one-liners ..
“Never
give the devil a ride .. he will always want to drive.”
“Nothing
else ruins the truth like stretching it.”
