April 3rd

There sure has been a big migration of R.V.S, cars, moter homes etc leaving this last week. So many left just after Easter. but we keep things rolling along here in the park. Quite a few activities will still go on and lots of get-to-gethers. some great cook outs, Friday donuts or as Darlene Bryant says "Coffee and Conversation" We take turns providing the donuts and making the coffee and cleaning up.We used to start around 7:30 a.m. but seems like everyone gathers by 7:00. typical Seniors. We chat at the Friday donuts and find out the latest news going on in the park and if anyone hears from the "Northerners" We still do Happy Hour on Wednesdays and we move 3 to 4 long tables into the card room and also have the Friday donuts in the cards room. I have put up a sign-up sheet for those who wish to provide the donuts each week, we some times run out of folks who wish to provide so many times we provide more than one time.
So check in on my blog occasionally to read any IMPORTANT NEWS about goings on here in the park and around town. I try to write mainly on Fridays after donuts....I have over 1200 hits on my blog each month so some of you might check quite often 😁
We sure enjoyied Easter dinner, many thanks to George and Sharyl Krantz and crew for all their hard work, the ham was delicious and so was the cheesy potatoes. So many great dishes were brought in by the great cooks here in the park! and Sharyl decorated the table so nicely, and a souvonier to take home for each couple.

RVE CLUB MEETING – Chair Darlene Bryant called meeting to order. We recited “Pledge to the Flag” and sang “God Bless America”. Meeting closed by singing club song, ”We Love Our Valley Home”.

Accompanist – Jan Delashmit

Invocation – Tom Cassidy

Secretary Report – Sharon Sprague

Treasurer Report – Sandy Novak

MANAGEMENT REPORT: We welcomed managers Bob and Vicki Davis who gave manager report. We were introduced to assistant managers Ron and Tricia Pires and welcome them to RVE. When asked what Ken Barnhart's position is, Bob replied, ”Maintenance.” Some areas Bob talked about were street work to be done this summer including patching and seal coating; lot number painting on curbs; possibly upping electrical ampage in 99s; Wi-Fi; interest from folks in Paradise South and Magnolia Parks to move into our park. Bob said, “New breakers may possibly be installed in 99s in future.” Suggestions were heard (too many to list) on colors to paint walls in Friendship Hall. Card room may have some work done too. Bob will talk to owner Walt Piper about Wi-Fi. Most agreed Spectrum works well for many including good trouble shooting. Charilyn Hover stated, “We do our banking, etc. online. SECURITY is important to us.” Website for park is riovalleyestates.com

Donna Gabbert keeps us informed with a blog. Find it at www.donnasramblingsatrve.blogspot.com .. she will continue to put news throughout the summer season. If you have something you think residents will want to know, give her a shout.

Donna Gabbert will be putting up a sign up sheet for those who may wish to bring donuts on Friday mornings when residents meet in card room. Monday morning club meetings are over for the season. Friday get togethers begin mid-April, Friday the 13th?

Club website by Judi DeKoning is RVEWTC.com .. for “members only”, the password is riovalley.

Treasurer Sandy Novak's gave her report. She said, “I called past treasurer Jim M. last night, had a couple questions.” Jim answered his phone with, “What the --- do you want? My job is done.” :-) Sandy's report was approved. Gave us all a smile.

Properties committee member Ron Zoeller reported. Concerning Brock Laing's suggestions on new lighting in Friendship Hall, Ron said committee has checked with electric company on 2 projects. First, were 100 can lights in ceiling, second was replacement of rope lights which would be color changeable & dimmable. Some new developments on a remote with ability to put on different systems will be reported to club in the fall. Committee will be asking for Brock's opinion of these projects. Replacement of 4 ft. table that had been welded several times was done. Ron said park management is working on new lights as old ones not working well. We talked about pool chairs as some have ripped, have maybe 10 good chairs. Many do not like those given to us by another park as the bars make them very uncomfortable. Pool chairs will be stacked in summer to keep them out of sun. A new folding chair was placed in front of hall for folks to try. Prior to meeting, Carolyn Thomsen was “bucked off” that chair. There were varying opinions from others who sat on the chair. Seems if you are “short” they might work .. if you are “tall” you might have another opinion. Cushion was nice but back too low, some thought. Idea is to replace ALL folding chairs, more on this in the fall. Board Members -- Properties – Ron Zoeller, Mike Reiff, Larry Pavlis; Finance – Sandy Novak, Gordon Amos, Jim Moeller.

Helen Curtis asks we call 603-674-3869, if we know of someone needing card due to illness/death in family. Cards to sign are in office area. If you call her & leave message, leave name. She will not return call if she doesn't know who left message. Cards this week were for Dave/Marylyn Mason, death of her sister-in-law; Ken Borah, death of wife Dorothy; Ann Johnson, death of sister Dorothy Borah. Helen appreciates updates on how folks are doing after we send them a card. Please see page 2 for thank you note from the Lykken's read by Helen this morning.

Helen previously put up a sympathy card for Anita Farley on the death of husband Ken. They lived at RVE for many years so some who remember them may wish to send a card of their own. Address to use is: Anita Farley, 955 W. 59th Ave., #343, Arvada, CO 80004.

George/Sharyl Krantz, chaired Easter Dinner. It was attended by 179 folks. The Krantzes thank all who attended and those who helped set up, serve, clean up. In George's words, “ We couldn't do this without your help.”

The ham & potatoes were great !!!

Sharon Bussinger is missing a medium sized serving spoon she took to Easter dinner yesterday. On back of spoon are her initials “S.B.” and her lot number, #212. Did you find it?

(continued from page 1)...This is the thank you card read by card chair Helen Curtis this morning .. “Dear Friends, You will never know how much we appreciated the card with all your signatures. We read & read it. I got tears in my eyes as there were memories of all of you. The many years at RVE were some of the best of our lives. You all made the years filled with wonderful memories. When Bud and I had health problems, you cared, prayed, visited, brought food, etc. Bud is doing well and I hope to get him home as soon as his foot heals. Our thanks again and may you all have a most wonderful summer and safe travels for some of you. Love and thanks.” - Bud and Arlene Lykken

Summer Activities
Editor received a note from Sandy Lenius about two get to gethers Illinois winter Texans have. The 3rd Thursday of each month, they get together for breakfast at Roscoe, Illinois. Once a month, they gather at Dairy Queen for birthdays, usually the Sunday after the Thursday get-together. Pass the word!
The Iowa Potluck is at noon on Wed., July 11. This is held at Comfort Inn in Story City.
In Iowa, RVE residents are invited to SkipAway Campground, Clermont, August 5-12. Tom & Mary Lou Benson have opted to not plan tours/activities after having done it for over 20 yrs, but plan to attend. If you wish a camping spot, make your own reservations with Terry Baker at 563-423-7338 or 563-380-0841. Some come & stay at motels. Bensons can get phone numbers for you. Gene Maurer and Carolyn Thomson announce a special activity on Wed., Aug. 8. All are invited to their home on “Lansing Day” when many go to Horsefall's. The new conservation building in Lansing will surely be of interest to folks too. Plan to end the day at Carolyn and Gene's … they will provide maidrites and baked beans! Others may wish to bring a dish to share. We'll have a sign up sheet at camp out so you can indicate if you plan to join the group there....will help Carolyn/Gene to plan.

Lexophilia – Who on earth dreams these up?
“I know who's addicted to brake fluid,
but he says he can stop any time.”
“When chemists die, they barium.”
“I'm reading a book about anti-gravity.
I just can't put it down.”
“I did a theatrical performance about puns.
It was a play on words.”
“Did you hear about the cross-eyed teacher who lost her job
because she couldn't control her pupils?”
“When you get bladder infection, urine trouble.”
“I got a job at a bakery because I kneaded dough.”

Can anyone relate to this? It's about OLD PEOPLE
I never really liked the terminology “OLD PEOPLE”. But this makes me feel better. Got this from an OLD friend.
Old People are easy to spot at sporting events. During the playing of The National Anthem, they remove their caps, cover their hearts, stand at attention, sing without embarrassment. They know the words & believe in them.
Old People remember World War II, Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Normandy, Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, Korean War, Cold War, Jet Age, Moon Landing. They remember the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945-2005, not to mention .. Vietnam.
If you bump into an Old person on the sidewalk, he will apologize. If you pass an Old person on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady. Old People trust strangers . They re courtly to women and treat them with great respect.
Old People hold the door for the next person. When walking they make certain the lady is on the inside.
Old People get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children. They don't like any filth or dirty language on TV or in movies. Old People have moral courage and personal integrity. They seldom brag unless it's about their children, grandchildren or their animals.
It's the OLD PEOPLE who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country.
This country needs OLD PEOPLE with their work ethic, sense of responsibility, pride in their country, decent values.
We need them now more than ever.

WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT?
(taken from papers written by a class of 8 year olds)
Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of their own. They like other people's.
Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money.
When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves & caterpillars. They talk to us about the colors of flowers & why we shouldn't step on “cracks”.
They don't say, “Hurry up”.
Usually grandmothers are fat but not too fat to tie your shoes. They wear glasses and funny underwear. They can take their teeth & gums out.
Grandparents can answer questions like “Why isn't God married?” and“How come dogs chase cats?”
When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.
Everybody should have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television because they are the only grownups who like to spend time with us.
They know we need snack time before bed time. They say prayers with us and kiss us even when we've acted bad.
Grandpa is the smartest man on earth! He teaches me good things, but I don't get to see him enough to get as smart as him!
It's funny when grandparents bend over. You hear gas leaks, and they blame the dog.

Plenty of room for jokes and stories today ..
so must be time to stop printing newsletter!!

Editor wishes all a wonderful & healthy
summer .. Lord willing, see you in the fall.

FINAL NEWSLETTER OF THIS SEASON IS TODAY
