Friday August 27th

We had a couple cool mornings with low humidity and it just felt kind of fallish!
But The weatherman said this morning we are to be back to higher humidity and high around 96 to 98. We were to have a fairly good chance for rain but looks like we will only have very spotty showers.
The authorities in Mexico discovered 72 bodies just 40 miles South of us! Supposedly a cartel dumping ground. They were South American imigrants.
At the bridge Mexico decided they would only accept Mexican Money to pay on the way out. They even made people turn around and go back to get pesos. Just a couple days later they went back to accepting American money, it was to curb money laundering they said.
Marilyn Jass's brother James Parker died, he had been in our park and rented here at one time, a card is up to sign. Also a card for Ken Cook who broke his collar bone
Bill and Velda Lee provided the donuts this morning!
By for now

Friday August 20th

Like the old saying, "I've been so busy I don't know if I found a rope or lost my horse!!!"
We made it home Tuesday around 1:30p.m. we went over 2400 miles and never saw a wreck but got to LaFeria and there was a big wreck on the Westbound side. A suv smashed into a truck which had stopped on the expressway and had the orange cones out, the lady hit the driver of the truck and the back of the truck, then the driver of the truck walked around and got hit by another car, the lady had a 2 year old in her car. All three were taken to the hospital. I just heard today the lady died.
Sure thought the campout went well. We ate pretty good! Every night! fresh sweet corn, fresh tomatos, cucumbers, etc. Lots of home grown vegy's, Shermans provided quite a bit and also some really delicious fresh peaches from Illinois. Gibbs brought them. We did a variety of things during the day...some went tubing, others shopping in nearby towns, and golfing. We gathered for an evening meal every night and Sherman made some neat camp fires.
There were over 80 people there this year. Some camped and some came by for the day! On the Smile box below BESURE TO CLICK ON THE LITTLE PICTURES ON THE RIGHT OF THE BIGGER PICTURE. This is on the first slide show I did. When you click on the little pics on the right, they will get large so you can view them.
So far there are know new cards to sign, that's always nice to see a clean board,if you know what I mean. At coffee and donuts this morning Bobby said no one had anything to say!!That's unusual. They had a bean feed here while we were gone.
Del and Beverly Telfor provided the donuts.
We went to Mexico this morning! There is so much traffic now on Texas as 1015 is still closed, lots and lots of trucks. When we went over that big bridge where the turf farm is, we were sure surprised! Before we left it was all water everywhere under it, now it's mostly gone down. When we got to the border the street just before you cross the bridge for 20 feet or so,terrible shape it was all rolly polly!!! I guess from all the truck traffic, they will surely be fixing that soon. There were quite a few police with machine guns after we crossed over. And maybe being it was Friday lots of people over there. We had no problem getting a parking spot when we went in but coming out it looked like most parking on the main street was taken. We heard the streets were quite empty and some businesses close because not many folks going over there. It must be getting better. We went to a Pharmacy then took a walk down to a mall where the Dentist Diana is located. There sat Frank Willard waiting on Phylliss. He said Diana wasn't in but her husband was. It's
pretty slow there the receptionist told us. By the way to who it may concern......
Absolute, Vodka was $16.00..... We went with Clara and Larry, our Assistant mgrs. and we ate breakfast at the Bakery. Guess what? No sweet rolls at all, shelves empty except for Boleos, a thick sugar cookie and biscuits, I asked the one waiter where's the sweet rolls and he just said there aren't any. Maybe they don't bake all those goodies on a daily basis when the Winter people aren't coming over. We asked for a breakfast taco each and we got, one taco, a pile of lettuce, with a tomato slice, about 5 French fries, and little refried beans. lol It was pretty tasty. There were 2 boys playing their guitars and singing and coming around for tips. We had only a couple cars to wait on at the bridge. It looked like they were being quite thorough
at the bridge, they had 2 cars pulled over both of them looked like old people, standing outside of their cars while they searched...My gosh, I couldn't believe it!
Well, that's all for now, I will post if there's anything interesting happen!!
AN INTERESTING FACT ABOUT AUGUST 2010. THIS AUGUST HAS 5 SUNDAYS, 5 MONDAYS, AND 5 TUESDAYS. ALL IN ONE MONTH. IT HAPPENS ONCE ONLY IN 823 YEARS

Larry Dixon

I talked to our Assitant Mgr. Clara White today, she said Larry Dixon had surgery last night. He had a stone blocking the urethra, and had to have it surgically removed. He is in ICU and his daughter Ginger is here.
Jan Philipps has had some tissue that turned out to be pre cancerous removed from her breast and will have some more removed as a precaution. She is going to have radiation following that , so they wont be coming in Sept. as planned but in October.

Campout

Well, now I know why they call the casino at Oseceola,IA, "Terribles"! we stayed 2 nights there. Not only did their machines suck so did their campground. The streets very narrow in the park and so torn up,ruts etc.one way streets that you have to drive the wrong way on them to get out of the darn park, no bathrooms and showers and no laundry room.
When we arrived at Skip-away campground, Quails were here and Miles Stensland and his Daughter right ahead of us, then Shermans came in, also Tom and Rojean Anderson, we had a major thunder and lightening storm during the night...yup I thought to myself .."good ole Iowa" Large hail and 60 mile per hour winds predicted, and of course conditions right for tornados. I didnt get to sleep until 2:30 a.m. The lady who owns the campground said there was a little twister here, it sucked all the garbage out of the fenced in coral and some trees damaged. Not close to us but only 6 blocks or so. Most of the week to be like this, chances of thunderstorms!
Today, Monday,Rusers,Gibbs,Printy's,and some folks who haven't camped with us before, Bruces, (who have a 5th wheel in our park on A-3) have arrived.
We have had quite a few more r.v.ers comein,Andrews,Whiteds,Bensons,Andersons,Hejiks,Philipps and Marlene Prohaska is here, several due in today including, Berglunds, Matsons, Amos. Over 30 folks went to take a cruise on the Mississippi today, and then dinner if they want at the casino.
We all have t-shirts saying I survived the Rio Valley Estates winter Texan Campout, which we put on this monrning to go on the cruise in.The first picture was taken before they embarked on their cruise!
I heard from the Park today that there are several cards up for folks to sign:
Monica Kline, Larry Dixon, Jerry Elwood, and Don Gordon.

Iowa

We were a little late getting started for our trip to Iowa, Javiere was weed eating near our truck and a rock flew into our rear window on the truck, shattering it, but it was fixed and we were on our way with just a couple hours delay.
We made it to Iowa, no problems. We stayed in some unique campgrounds! The first one was called Southforty and was really neat. the owner has quite a nice herd of Longhorn cattle which we saw and deer there. We were in Waco at the Midway park, out on Lake Waco next. We have stayed there many times and it is so nice. Our Daughter lives in Woodway a suburb of Waco. We had a wonderful dinner there. Then we stayed the next night at a Army Base at McAlester,OK., it's an amunitions base. They were having an Archery shooting contest at the campgrounds there that weekend, but we left before all that started. We went to the BX and drove around some. very close to the campsites are deer roaming about, geese, and a good place to fish, but it's a catch and release.Nice for family's.We were in Osceola Friday at Terribles Casino and R.V.park. Had fun last night at the Casino, and had a free breakfast this morning. Our Puppy, Heidi surprised us , she slept so much and when awake was very good in the truck, but when we stopped she made up for being cooped up.
I will write more later, we will be going over to the Campout in Clermont tomarrow.

Former Residents

2 Former residents of R.V.E. passed away this last week, Freda Conwell,(her and husband Jim were Chairman of the dances here for some time), and Lawrence Peck, I think they both lived in Kansas
