For the quilters out there!

Twas the night before Christmas, I'm glued to the tree,
I'm wondering what Santa brought just for me,
Could it be fat quarters or a pattern
or lace? Or a quilt kit, I said, with a smile on my face.
And that's when I heard him,
"Hi Santa,"I said.
"You know....good little girls should be in their beds".
"I know I should Santa, and now I've been caught.
"Well lets take a look in the room where you work."
He shook his head quickly, And left with a jerk.
I heard him exclaim as he put it in gear.
"You've got enough stuff, I'll see you next year!"

Well, that's about right! But it's hard to turn down lovely fat quarters or pretty material, You always can find uses for more, right?

Hildago Festival of Lights

We sure enjoyied our tour of the lights , the dinner and entertainment Thursday the 10th. It was quite cold and some of us (the smart ones) wore our long underwear and Winter coats, so we were pretty warm. We had a covered trolley but no windows panes. There are a few trolleys with glass windows and also a horse drawn one.
Every year the City of Hildago presents it's annual Festival of Lights there are sponsors who sponsor certain huge magnificant light displays, from Dec. 3rd to after New Years The tours with Dinner and trolley ride and entertainment are the 3rd thru the 16th, I believe. Our dinner was very good, the entertainment great and of course the displays all over town were so gorgeous, pictures don't do them justice but I have these 2 slide shows so you can view them and see some of what we saw. The entertainment for the night we went was a Frank Sinatra impersonator from Vegas and a large group of children from deep in Mexico, who sang many xmas songs in Spanish and had us sing along. Also they sang some beautiful other songs.
Across the street from where we ate and where the entertainment was and many wonderful light displays, are 3 huge beautiful homes owned by the Ayala family. all of which are some of the most brilliant displays in the City. Ramon Ayala, is well known in Mexico and U.S. and his band the bravos del Norte are very well known and have won numerous Latin and American Grammy Awards! also there are 3 live reindeer to view in pens near where we boarded the trolley, all this for $8.00 per person for all.
Dont know who that Eskimo looking chick is in the black coat but she was very warm while alot of other folks were shivering! That picture is in the first slideshow....hope you enjoy the slode shows.

Monday meeting Nov. 9th

Just a short note of what went on at the meeting this morning.
Art Bloom gave the invocation. He told a story about one of our Veterens on the board Fred Hamilton, who was a prisoner of war and said each of the men on the board have a story to tell, and thanked Bobby and I for work we put into the board but thanks goes to the veteran Board comittee for all their work also.
Walter Piper was here to greet and welcome us back. Connie, mgr. reported that the mail has been coming late, like 5:00p.m. or 6:000p.m. and will do so until they get the routes straightened out. Connie also asked that people bring back the park traps as there are several that were loaned out and were never returned.
A lovely thank you card was sent by Cindy Gonsolez, Javier was there to personally thank us, we were asked to donate some money to help with the cost of a procedure she needed to have concerning her Cancer. Their Son made a carrot cake and a pineapple upside down cake for the folks attending the meeting this morning.
A cabinet was donated for the card room and there may be some more added to it for some much needed storage. We voted to buy a popcorn machine.
Jack Havertape urged everyone to go thru your "stuff" and get a table for the up coming flea market!! there only $2.00 a table
Those savings books will not be sold by Anita Farley this year, anyone want to sell them?
Art Voss was wanting the folks to vote to have the Benevides Floor care people come in after all major events like Speghetti, bean feed, stew feed, German Fest etc.
major events like these and they will sanatize all tables , bottoms and tops, and put majority of tables and chairs away, and clean and mop the floor, costing $150.00 each time. Well, the majority was for it.Well, we willl see how this works out, very expensive, in my opinion.
Marge Rexroad says floor exercises started every morning, and also quilting Tuesdays at 1:00p.m.
Oh, Jack Havertape has park phone directorys left yet.
Jack and Mary Jo are going to chair the Thanksgiving Dinner this year.
Isn't it wonderful we have so many willing folks who will step up and chair these great events and Dinners!!!

First Mon. morning meeting

Well, our first Mon. morning meeting was held this morning at 9:30. There were quite a few there. Art Voss chaired the meeting and Sharon Sprague was secretery. Art mentioned that both he and Paul Sprague do not wish to be chairman for this year as other people need to be doing it and be thinking of whom you might like for chairman this year.
Darlene Bryant gave the invocation and Nancy Kerkau led the singing of God Bless America and the pledge.
Connie and Jack Bardon, mgrs. were there to say welcome back to everyone and introduced the new Asst. mgrs. Larry and Clara White.
Kay Gibson thanked all her helpers she had for the Halloween Party she also said Javier Gonzolez wife needs a blood cleanse for her Cancer and it will cost $800.00 and Walter Piper, park owner will be giving some money and she asked all of us to donate if we would to help out. They passed the hat but alot of us didn't have
money with us so we ware to take our donation to Irene Quail.
Bobby Thomas reported that there was alot of problems this Summer with the freezer going out the refrigerator, and ice machine. As the temp inside our hall reached 120 many many days this Summer. He said the condensors could be put outside where there would be more air circulating, when ever the ice machine breaks down they have to send for parts as it's a different type of machine then most others that have a supply of parts handy right here in the Valley. Leaning towards buying a new one. But people need to realize we had a most unusual Summer with record breaking heat lasting for months. Hopefully we wont ever have another Summer like this past one!
Flu shots given here on Nov. 6th at 7a.m.
Irene gave us a list of people who have passed away since April and a few cards that she sent out. One being to Henry Hrnyiw who had 6 by-pass surgery.

Flu Update

What is the difference between the Bird Flu and the Swine Flu?

The Bird Flu you need "Tweetment" and the Swine Flu you need "Oinkment"

Friday Donuts Sept. 18th

Hello!

We had our usual Friday coffee and conversation this morning. It was a beautiful morning. We had a nice turnout about 32 were there. Gene Ziaja provided the donuts.
We had a couple visitors, Leon and Sherry Cheatham, they came down to get a car, and will be back later this Fall. Gary and Jan Philipp are here for the Winter, they got here Wednesday evening. It was good to see them.
Connie or Jack did not come this morning, so we didn't have a mgr. report. They haven
t got their building started for the guys yet but Connie did say Scott was still trying to decide on bids to do it. Bobby Thomas still replacing bad wood in the fence and has started painting the inside of the fence. I see some of the corals in the 99's are being painted by the guys and lots and lots of mowing being done since our heavy rains . Jack our Mgr. has mowed over 15 lawns as some of the lawn care people fell behind.
Some of them looked pretty bad. When they have so many yards to mow they get behind when we have rain. We have to mow every week!!!!!!!!
Betty Aderton had toe surgery this week, Mgr. Connie feeling some what better.
Got an email from John and Irene Quail, after being in Iowa for some time they went to S. Carolina, Her brother and wife had a surprise Birthday party for her and also attended a class reunion and John and her attended a family reunion on her Daddy's side, they will be on Oklahoma this week then on to New Mexico and Sedona AZ. So sounds like they're having a great time.
Well, that's all I know for now, I will add more news as it happens.

news

Katy Scharping passed away 3 days ago. We will miss her laugh, she loved R.V.E. so much and playing anything and everything it didn't matter what, just so she was playing!
I talked to Art Voss yesterday and he said Al Mickesh, who plays on Mon. night dances has lymphoma but is doing good.I think he wanted to play again this year but Art has hired Lyle Beaver for the season but he won't be starting until the 3rd week in Nov. Art may be coming up with someone else for the first few weeks in Nov.
Bobby and I went to the Mexican flea Market on mile 2 and Bus. 83, I think that will be my last time going there. So much kids toys and little food places,(the smell) (oofta)!!! used clothes etc. undescribable actually. We bought a plant, an Xoria (sp.) it is a pink one and looks really healthy.
There were parrots in the trees behind mobile 264,this morning, they fly over alot but don't see them land very often, also 3 orioles, 2 on our lime tree and one in the bird bath, (orange and black ones)

Friday Donuts

Good morning!
Well, this morning we had our donuts and coffee with Bev Ostrander & Darlene Bryant providing them.
Our 2nd Winter Texans have arrived,Pat and Bill Hamlet, Cheryl Maxon and Ken Costly being the first to arrive.
We didn't have a Mgr.report. We had over 3 inches of rain in the last 3 or 4 days, everything greening up. Thank God!
Darlene Bryant will be having a heart cath this Tuesday at Renaisance Hosp. Katy Scharping is in hospice after suffering a heart attack. Not too many cards sent out this week.
Some of the folks went to Mr. Gattis for pizza Monday night, and also they had their Thusday morning breakfast at Tex-Mex Restaurant.
We are having omelets in a zip lock bag this Sat. and Monday we are having a ham dinner in the hall for $4.00 each. The big frig quit on us this week ruining some things in it. It was fixed but it cost quite a bit. The heat in the hall this Summer has been very hard on the frig and ice machine. The guy that fixed the ice machine
said the compressors can be put outside to eliminate the problem, as they have been leaving the doors open to the hall and a fan going near the compressor, but it really gets dusty and dirty in the hall then.We cleaned the kitchen of dust before we did the omelets last week and the cleaning lady cleaned a few days ago. There were some large insect or mouse droppings on the counter and under the sink.
If I think of anything else I will add more in a day or two

August 28th

Hi ya'll
We had our usual coffee and donuts and conversation this morning, 32 or so were there and The Farley's provided them.
Tonight Bobby Thomas is grilling hot dogs and we will bring a side dish. Just got done making my potato salad and a few deviled eggs.
Well, it's still very dry here, the spotty showers missed us, but tomarrow may bring a little rain, we will see. The yards look pretty bad, hopefully the next rain we get will keep them from dying. We are only to water on certain days, our address being 715 makes us only to water on certain days of the week and before 10:00 a.m. Getting pretty bad!
Sorry to post this so late in the day but I was busy this morning. After donuts I took Junior, our dog to the Vet in Edinburg. He tested positive for this infection caused by a brown tick bite. His kidneys were not functioning right he was anemic, blood count off and you name it,he has been on an antibiotic for 1 month now, he acts like his old self now but still doesnt have the appetite he had. Well, the Vet is quite positive he is ok now. Checked him over quite thoroughly and said he doesnt need any more antibiotics and so I hope it's over with... had me scared!
Connie said that they moved the little shed back behind the coral they just built by the 99 showers, getting ready to start work on the work shed. I commented on how nice the windows and doors looked as Javier washed all the doors and window screens in the pool room and lobby, yesterday, makes the whole room look cleaner!Names of cards Beverly sent:

The bank is open at Pike and Westgate.

August 21st

Look what we are having tomarrow morning...omelets in a bag!
Bobby and I and Duffy's are cooking omelets in a zip-lock bag, in the morning. Bobby is making biscuits and toast. I am sure it will be good!
We had 35 for donuts this morning with Coxley/Maxson providing them. after I left the folks who bought Katy's mobile came in, the Norris's. also Earl Dowells son Louie came , he's staying with his Dad until the 5th of Sept. Kay Gibson is back she had been gone about 2 months.
Connie was there. She said the new work shed will be a little larger than originally planned,20 by 24ft. They're doing leveling of some gravel in the storage area. a few other things mentioned but I forgot what. :-S
It's so dry here, it's like walking on shredded wheat when you walk on some of them. trees really need the water.
Our dog Junior who tested positive for a disease spread by a brown dog tick, seems to be doing alot better, better appetite, more energetic, not as depressed,
so hopefully he will make it through this.
I will post more later. Until next time....;)

Barn Quilt Pictures

More news

I just talked to Bev Ostrander to see who all she sent cards to while we were gone,
Rex Arrowsmith, former resident had heart surgery
Monica Kline, fell
Marie Slycord, tests
D. Ratliff, former resident, stroke
Ken Cook, had hip surgery
Penny Rush, tests
Josie Miller, hip surgery

Wouldn't it be cool if we all had a mobile quilt??????? It could be on a 2ft. by 2 ft. piece of plywood and you could choose a neat quilt pattern to paint on it and attach it to the mobile or a stand in front or something. We were talking about it at the campout.

Friday August 14th

Hello everyone!
We had our usual Friday donuts with the Floyds providing them, it's their 54th Wedding anniversary today!
As some of you know, Paul Turner passed away while we were gone, his boys and one daughter-in-law were here with him, also a very good friend of mine, Shirley Julian from Woodstock Ont. passed away suddenly, I will get a list from Beverly on cards she sent out besides these two.
No one from Management there. They have many projects going, making the new shed for the maintenance men, (already have a new awning in front of it),just snapped a picture of connie out at the shuffleboard court with the Asst. mgr. the rubber that is stung along the court has come loose and rusty screws sticking out and some laying along there, so they're putting in new rubber. I see there's gravel out where the storage area is, to level out, they are having to replace some posts which were damaged and pushed over some from the hurricane last Summer and have to concrete them in,also replacing bad wood in fence and power washing it and staining it again.
Since we have been gone to Iowa for the R.V.E. campout at Clermont, some of the folks here took a picnic lunch and went over to Padre and ate over there in the pavillion, went to Willie B's for B.B.Q. and they are still going to The Tex-Mex Restaurant on Thurs. morning for breakfast.
I have a slide show, just a small one of some pics from the campout, we had a great time and we were there early and it was fun to see who was coming in next, we had over 20 campers there for the whole time, we came early along with Quails and Shermans. some of the ladies went on a road trip around the area looking at all the beautiful barn quilts, then stopped for refreshments...they all purchased bright orange shirts and came back to camp looking like a bunch of construction workers lol
we also had a group go over to a riverboat casino one day. During the week in the evening we usually cooked our own meat and then brought a side dish to share, oh my too much food! Shermans provided some good ole Iowa sweet corn each night, never got enuff of that! One night The Bensons provided smoked pork loins for all of us smoked by their good friend Jake, and Sat. morning we had a real neat breakfast, we had omelets in zip lock bags which they dropped in boiling water. This was Tom and Connies idea and they provided everthing for it, cracked a couple eggs in the bag with whatever you liked in your omelet, ham, cheese, hashbrowns , what ever, than smooshed it all together, really fun. 103 year old Ruby Baechler, Mother of Tom Benson came for it along with Toms Sisters and some more family of Tom and Mary Lous.
Ruby really enjoyed that and Mary Lou says she's still smiling!!She new Bobby and I and always says "you live across from the Griffins"!
I have a picture also of some field near Clermont which were hit by baseball sized hail, not a pretty sight. I heard over 300,000 acres severely damaged by the hail, and it looked like many homes got damaged also.
But oh, the cool weather there for the whole trip was so refreshing, 50's and 60 for lows and highs 80 or so, I am ashamed to say it but we had our furnace come on in the early mornings and I wore a sweat shirt about each morning, loved it!
Our outing this year was a cruise down the Mississippi on a huge pontoon,I have just a few of those pictures on here today , I have alot more to show you later. We went through a lock and dam, and our guide explained it to us, and all along the trip he had interesting things to say and point out.We had 39 on our trip , I think.
Well, I will post more real soon as I am very busy yet, getting settled in lol
We are in a severe drouth here, yards are so brown. And temps 100 each day!

The weather was cool, 50's and 60's in the morning and 80 or so for a high, loved that! I will write more on the happenings here at the park Friday after donuts as I need to catch up on the news while we were gone.
Stay tuned!!!!
