Next Years Cancer Walk

Committee met on March 29 to discuss the Jan. 17, 2012 Cancer Walk in our park. Some areas discussed included:

All proceeds will stay in the Rio Grande Valley.

Walkers, bikers and anyone else wishing to contribute will receive a free tee shirt for a $20 donation. Both men & women are encouraged to participate.

Anyone may purchase a paper “mini-shirt” for a $5 donation. These will be posted in Friendship Hall. On this mini-shirt, it would be noted that the donation is “given by” and “in memory or support of" whoever the contributor names. You may purchase as many of these mini-shirts as you wish. We know cancer has affected everyone in our park in one way or another....and you may have more than one person you wish to honor.

If you wish to sign up for the walk (and free tee shirt) you may contact Mary Lou Benson by calling her at 956-532-9665 .. or by email at mlbendyb@gmail.com. Sizes of shirts that will be available are S-M-L-XL-XXL-XXXL. We'll be ordering shirts early in December in a variety of colors so if you have a color you prefer, please let Mary Lou know when you sign up. After the initial order we will order extra shirts but you would possibly not have as wide a choice of colors and/or sizes.

Questions may be addressed to any committee member .. Jan Philipp, Mary Lou Benson, Dianna Bruce, Rita Henningsen, Catherine Gibbs, Anita Madsen.

Monday, March 28th

The Philipps and the Bensons just returned from a fishing trip to Lake Conroe. they said the R.V. s are one after the other heading North! I hope you all will email me and give me some info for the blog. If you have something you think we would all be interested in whether its a fun trip you have taken, a get-to-gether with your R.V.E. friends, whatever, take a picture and send it to me!! If you have a milestone anniversary, let me know and I will be glad to post a picture. Let us see some of your beautiful garden and flower pictures anything you would like for us to see. It sure doesn't have to be sickness or deaths, we all enjoy "good" news and fun photos
and I will try to keep you all posted on this end.
We are really starting to get Summer temperatures here, even a triple digit possibly next week.
Irene sent cards to Gary Jass, tumor in throat, Al Mason, back surgery, Matt Miller family, on death of Gloria Hausers Brother, a card to Ray and Margaret Davis on the death of his Sister, and a card to Jeannie Burkinshaw in hosp. for staff infection.
The April and November Club Chairman will be Darlene Bryant, asst. will be Bev Telfor.
We will still have our Wed. Happy Hour but it will be in the breezeway, bring your own drinks and snacks.
We talked about the Wi-fi problems and I think alot of the folks espeically in the R.V. section had a terrible time this year, they would get internet service off and on all season, and really would like to see someone come in who is a professional and fix things, but Walter Piper says it woould cost all of us a huge amount of money to do this. It's advertised in the brichures for our park..free Wi-Fi, maybe it should say free Wi-Fi on occasion... lol! I wonder if other parks have this much trouble, you would think a professional could come in and give some advice at least.
We enjoy going over to the American Legion in Pharr, Sweetwater band plays two nights a week and a one man band plays a couple nights also, Huge hamburgers on Monday nights, and 50-50 draw. there's a taco night and a really good fish Seafood night on Fridays. Shrimp, chicken and fish combos.Turn South on Cage St.it's on the left just after crossing Kelly.

Monday

We had a usual meeting this morning, we had a voting of 1 person on Property's and 1 on Finance. Ken Barnhart won for the Property's and Mary Lantis won for Finance
I have news for everyone! We are going to be doing a photo album or park directory next year. We will start taking pictures in September of this year, of year around people. Just to let you know if you are new to the park...a professional photographer will come in and set up behind the stage, you will have an appointment time and he will take 4 or 5 poses of you and your pet if you desire, and right away you get to view the proofs and pic the one for the photo album, you make also pick another pose for some pictures you would like. There will be picture pkgs to choose from, the main ones will include your directory free, you will receive a free picture just for being photographed, and you will get your picture in the album, if in time for Christmas you may also choose some Christmas cards with your pictures on them. They also offer address cards. Maybe some of you have just recently had photos taken of yourselves, and do not wish to order additional pictures, you will find the professionally done phtos to be much cheaper in price then most photo studios charge.
We want everyone that stays here in the park to get their picture in the album.
You will receive your pictures in 3 weeks or so, and your album will be here when you return in the Fall. As they put them all together in the Summer.

Monday March 7th

I didnt attend the meeting today so am just writing up what I have been reading in the news letter. Rex Rexroad called our meeting to order and Sandy Novak gave the invovation.
Our manager Connie stated that there are lots of complaints and grumbling this season, she asked that complaints go to the committee, she is alone in the office right now as Lillian is with Loren who had surgery on his knee. They are now closing at lunch time for an hour for the rest of the season.
A Jam scheduled for Thursday and pulled pork sandwiches will be served. Brock thanked everyone for supporting the Friday night entertainment. RVE Talent night is this Friday, that should be fun, I bet there's lots of talent here in the park that we will learn about this Friday!!
Irene sent cards to Marie Slycord, still in the hosp. Al Farless, leaving going to VA hosp. on Ok. Also to Virginia Ward on the death of her husband Ralph, former residents. I will be handling the cards for a couple weeks for Irene so just give me a call if you know of someone needing a card. My no. is in the book, the cell no. has an extra 1 on the end of it but otherwise the no. is correct.
Congratulations to Ken and Cheryl who got married this week.
The Ropa style show is tomarrow Mar.8th, Talent show is the 10th and the big 50's Sock Hop is the 15th, Irish stew on the 17th, so lots going on this month.
An election of one person for the Finance and one for property's will be held next Mon.
Jan Philipp said we are having a Cancer Walk next year, with a soup supper to follow, money raised will stay in the Valley.
Bev brought up the fact that our Bingo bopard is obsolete and the property's committee will look into the cost of replacement. I attended this week and the crowds are really big now and there's a horse race or 2 or 3 or 4 lol, we had 4 races last Sat. I think 4 lucky people each got $15.00, the bingos were $10.00 each, at the break there was 12 draws for $5.00 each. Popcorn and pop for sale and icecream novelties at the break
