More New Year Scraps

Well, the big news is the owner of the park came here from Florida to try to deal with the gas company.
they shut off the gas to our park... and the problems are not solved and Walter thinks they may not get solved. He suggests folks go all electric, or propane. He will reemberse residents some on the cost. The office will be the ones to talk to about that. There are propane tanks now for mobile homes which can sit right behind the mobile. this would be a cheaper alternative. But the heating and plumbing people are trying to keep their costs reasonable. One of them was at the meeting, an owner of a heating, air-conditioning business who has done a lot of work here in the park, and comes highly recommended.
So if you have a gas stove, water heater or furnace you will need to make decisions on what you would like to do.
Since we cant heat our pool and hot tub we are invited to go over to Ranchero Park, just wear your name badge.
There will be a park lighting contest, judging within a week.
The new web site for the park is riovalleyestates.com.
the Christmas show will be Dec. 22nd with Lindley Creek cost is $5.00.
The 1st free movie night will be this Thursday, a Christmas movie, "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year"
Our Christmas Day Dinner the 25th!

More New Year Greetings

Well, the big news is the gas being shut off in the whole park. Some people going to motels since it's so cold here. The high today will be 50, which is warmer than the last few days. We are to warm up to 60 this coming weekend. Because of the gas company shutting off our gas, our park owner Walter Piper flew in from Florida, he was here with Scott, the other owner, to talk to us about the situation.I think this is the 6th day without gas. Many people have gas for heating, some just for cooking some for waterheater, and some are all gas. There has been a very slight amount of gas leaking somewhere...there were 3 very small leaks fixed but somewhere there's another tiny leak, it seems the gas company will not approve turning on the gas until the leak is located. the park has space heaters in the office , $20.00, refunded to them when they return them, some folks going to electric over the situation. And if the gas company will  not turn on the gas, people will be forced to go with propane or all electric.
Also it was announced that Aloha Good will not be able to sell homes in our park. You may however sell your unit yourself or the park will handle the sale.

Irene Quail has had surgery on her foot in Houston. The Dr. has said it was successful and she may be home sooner than they thought

There's a Tea Party coming up on the 11th, and the golf cart parade coming up the 15th
and as my good friend Aloyce always says

Nov. 17th

Well, since the last post we have had lots of folks come in. The card games, dominos, line dancing lessons, all started up or starting up. The first Bingo was last Sat.the icecream was quite soft, found out the freezers need servicing, and that's to take place, also last Saturday the Committee served biscuits and gravy but the ovens didn't work, thank God they bought the biscuits which heat up in the microwave. Jerry Maxwell said dances will start with Diego playing: Dec. 2nd., 9th and Jan. 6. Jim Staton Dec. 16.

Monday Nov. 4th

This morning was the first meeting of the Winter Texan Club. A very small group but many on their way or coming in soon.

Bev Telfor was Chairman, with Dorothy Borah Secretery.
Sam and Helen, Mgrs. came and introduced themselves and told about some of the things that were done this Summer.
Including, new furniture in trhe lobby, Changing the code for the gate, added 2 new computers in the lobby, filled holes in streets, moved many sewer hookups farther to the sides so people wouln't drive over them, got rid of unused phone boxes, also they're not closed during noon hour, they will take turns with the Assistants. Since the folks in 80 do not wish to have wi-fi equipment on their lot, Scott is looking for a solar  powered thingy to put in. Helen said they will not plan on coming to every meeting if there isn't a real need, as they will be working in the office. They will come when there's specific things that need to be dealt with.
There's a list of people who received cards this Summer (starting in mid April),at the back of the hall infront of the bulletin board.. I think over 40 of them. Also the Westeins were omitted from the photo directory so Creative Images  has sent over peal offs with their picture on them for those who got there directorys before last Wed.  They peel off like a stamp and just stick them in on the last page of the photo pages under Ron Zollars picture. All those who will be coming in will have the new folks added to their directory already.
Clyde Reed will take over for Ken Barnhart on the Property Comittee.

Friday October 25th

Another beautiful morning here in the Valley. We have been having cool mornings and mid 80's in the afternoon, very little wind. but guess this coming Monday the winds are going to pick up and we are to have warmer temps.Nice while it lasted.
Well, this morning the Office supplied the donuts. This is usually the last Friday donuts. Then our weekly club meetings start the first Monday in Nov.
Our exciting news this week has been Gary and Jan Philipp getting their new mobile. they said all Summer they had plans to buy a new one, and sure enough they did. It's 18 wide, and really nice.
I think the whole park lined up to see the old one taken out and then the new one coming in.
The old one going out
The new one coming in. The Philipps opted to keep their Texas room so it  had to be removed from the old mobile and an opening made in the side of the new mobile, So the new one had to come in within inches of the Texas room then wenched over to rest right next to the Texas room. The movers did an awesome job.
There's a few changes that I mentioned before...Our codes to the gate were changed so if you're coming in after hours, you need to call the managers...603-674-3869
Did I mention before we have stricter pool hours. As cleaning takes  a bit longer to keep our pool imaculate, and so no one is allowed to be in the pool before 8:00 a.m. Also it is a good thing to go in the hall or wait in the breezeway if waiting on Aberto to finish his pool maintence. No one likes to be rushed and he does an excellent job.
I took some pictures of butterflies on some pretty flowers. There's been big swarms of butterflies in the air lately. But the majority of them are the tiny Monarchs. Which will plaster the hood of your R.V.S and windshields on your way here! Also a picture of the Morning Glories on our trellis and a picture of the huge grapefruit on our tree this year. Must have been all the rain we had earlier.

We are having a Halloween Party people are asked to bring finger food to share, costume prizes etc.
We are getting a Popeyes Chicken place just up the street..in front of Bealls and Ross's stores, right beside Starbucks Coffee.
A cool front came in last night, nice and cool this morning, mid 60's . This afternoon 70's. slight chances of rain, we have had sprinkles this morning.this is to continue for several days.
We found out at Karoake held in Llano Grandes big hall last night that there is going to be Karoake at their golf course club house this Winter on Tuesday nights. Also our Elks Club has Karoke on Mon. nights with dang good hamburgers and fries.Lots to do, good places to eat, right here in Weslaco, jams to go to, dances, entertainment galore!

Folks are arriving daily now  here in the park. It's aways good to see them coming in.
We have been running photo directorys to people as we learn who has come in. A lot of good comments on them, thanks  so much. But I think this directory was the best we've had yet because of the new backgrounds for the pictures and the nice quality paper used in them, making the colors pop!
I am going to write a thank you to "Creative Images and More" for their fine work.

I have heard that Doris Williams is in assisted living but  Marty is coming down. If anyone knows anything about them let me know. Don McEllwee not doing too good.

The pool is being kept up so great. It looks wonderful and I was in the last 2 days and it's perfect. The new time for opening the pool is at 8:00 a.m. As Ken and Roberto both agree it takes more time to keep it really clean. The heater is fixed in the hot tub.

The Elks Lodge starts this Sunday with their Fried Chicken dinners! I plan to volunteer this Sunday, many folks are waiting for this to start and people come for miles around to enjoy the hand breaded, chicken,  home made potatos and gravy, coleslaw, green beans, and bread. They start serving around 10:30.

We could sure use a rain here. Too bad it rains inches in some weeks then we dry out so bad in between.

I went to "Stats" on my blog and it said I had 3200 hits on the blog last month, how can this be? Some must go on it every day or twice a day!!! I better watch what I write!!!!!!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month...get the mammagrams ya'll

Good Day
good day scraps, glitter graphics and nice day comments

Orkut Image Scraps @GoodLightscraps.com

Art and Peg Bloom provided the donuts this morning. It sure is a beautiful bright Sunny morning!
People are starting to filter in. It's good to see everyone again.
There has been several new folks buy mobiles this Summer. I hope to post their names and maybe pictures soon.
Darlene Griffin and Daughter were here last week and got Dar's mobile ready to sell, sold her car and golf cart. she is in assisted living in DesMoines,IA. and said she really likes it there and has met several new friends.
Sorry to hear that Donna Passage passed away. She had a stroke here before selling out and moving to her Daughters. and then a massive one. Gary and Jan Philipp just returned from Minn.after attending the funeral for Gary's Mother. Jack Bardon our former Mgr. in the hospital in MO. has had a rough time of it. Several conflicting stories as to his condition, but do know he has been quite ill. I talked to Darlene McElwee this week. She said Don is not doing too well, he's so weak. He had surgery for an aneurysm near or on the kidney almost 2 weeks ago. He is being moved to a rehab facility.
I went to go to Churches Chicken the other day and there's nothing there! No building or anything there on the lot. Building a new Churches on the same location...the one on Bus.83 almost to Texas Blvd.South side. Panda Express is not looking like it's going to be opening soon, and the new car wash on Pike and Westgate is really coming along! I see they're landscaping with palms and shrubs yesterday when I went by.

Domino table

Wow!
We have a new Domino table. Thanks to Bryan Barksdale!
They have been here a week or more now. Also Mile Stensland is here!

Gary Philipp's Mother passed away from Cancer, they are here but will leave Saturday for Minn. Gary and Jan furnished donuts this morning.

Darlene Griffin and Daughter Dinette are here until Sunday. They have Dar's mobile for sale. I am sure it will sell fast.

Oh, we caught another Skunk! Both in the same area. Maybe when people start coming in they will stay away....

They haven't even started the Chick Fillete yet, I was disappointed.

We are going to the "Mustang" for home made pizza tonight. You do know Fred Goldsberry will be playing there one night a week and Llano Grande one night a week, one night at the Elks Club, Kingsville, and Sat. night at our local Elks Club. Anyone wishing to go to the Elks here let me know and will be glad to sign you in. The Lounge is for Elks members and guests, and they require you to sign in.

Friday Sept. 20th

Of course we are to get more rain today!!!Around noon or so. By tomarrow morning thunder storms again and lots more rain. I would guess we have had way over 9 inches the past 3 weeks. After Sunday it's supposed to clear up finally

This morning Gene Koliba and Mary Freundshuh furnished the donuts. We have had a few more folks come in. Hope you have a safe trip down here.

Mary Hildes Daughter called and said both Mary and Dick were found unresponsive in their home, another email said it was from medicine mix ups Mary doing better but Dick still in ICU. They need prayers going out for them!........ Update Mary gets to go home and Dick will have to stay in the hospital for 4 or 5 days more
Irene Quail had cataract surgery.
Connie Duffy who had foot surgery is doing good.
Sandy Cerda in 277 was having an angiogram and they were putting in some stints when she had a heart attack! She had to stay 4 days in the hospital. She said last night she's feeling pretty good, but a little weak.
Sandy and husband bought Aloyce and Dave Berglunds mobile

These cute little skunks have been running around our park...but one was caught in a park cage last night!
Yesterday morning just after daylight, I was walking Heidi around on the street behind Cheatham's mobile and out of the corner of my eye I saw a skunk running towards Heidi. I jerked her by the leash and ran , when I looked back the skunk had turned and went back towards the fence. So last night the trap was set and caught the little "stinker"  and no this is not a picture I took  lol Kind of rare for a skunk to come after a dog I think.

Don't forget the code changed on the gate openers. So call if you will be coming in after the gate closes.603-674-3869, (Mgr.Helen's no).

Have a beautiful Fall which begins tomarrow I think!

Services for Rachel

There will be a memorial service for Rachel Kerr, this Saturday, at 1:00p.m.on the 21st  at Indian Hills Church, this is where Bob is Pastor, next week Bob will travel to Fairborn Ohio, to the Rona Community Church where Rachel's Brother Jim is a Pastor. It will be on the 28th of Sept. at 1:00p.m. I was reading about the Church, her Brother has been Pastor there for 25 years. There's a nice picture of it on line if you care to read about it. It's located at 1082 Rona Parkway DR. Fairborn,OH. it's near Dayton, OH.
Did you all know Rachel has 9 Brothers and Sisters? My I bet she had lots of nieces and nephews.
I reported Bob would be staying at Shellitos mobile but he is staying at 294.He couldn't get internet service there, Philipps complained they couldn't get internet at their house either. We always seem to have that trouble.

Wednesday Sept. 11th

There have been quite a few rainbows in the sky, yesterday, late in the afternoon, there was one like this but a double one! We have never seen days like this with wave after wave of rains coming through, every afternoon for a couple weeks now. I would guess roughly 6 or 7 inches maybe more. The lawns are all overgrown. Even some rains in the morning, no drying out times.

Just to inform you all Rachel Kerr took her own life. There are rumors going around, so I did talk to Bob and this is what he said. I don't think they have let the public know yet as to where and how the fire started.

I have a card up for Bob and also for Cleland Thorpe who had back surgery. I just talked to him and he was just getting ready to check out of the hospital. He said in two weeks he can travel and they're planning coming down in October. They live in 34

Most of us have had our gate openers changed to the new code. You do know if you come after hours to call, 603-674-3869, Helen,
So far the hot tub is not fixed, waiting for a new heater I guess.

Kerr's Fire

I had actually posted these pictures earlier and thought how terrible that their home was destroyied, not knowing at that time Rachel was still inside...of course we are all so saddened. Bob said to go ahead and post this sad news. I asked him where he was going to stay and he said in 232, the park has it for sale, but there was a problem getting electricity to it so he's at Shellito's #168
We saw the smoke around 8:30 and heard the fire trucks come in. They did go in to check to see if anyone was in the mobile, they didn't see Rachel laying by the bed in the back bedroom, so dark and thick smoke.Had a bit of a hard time getting hold of Bob as he was teaching, I think in McAllen, and when he got the news and came home he asked where Rachel was,and that she was in the mobile when he left, so then of course they did another search and found her body in the back bedroom.
There's been folks wondering where the water hydrants are, there were none even faintly close to Kerr's. We drove all around the park and found 5. also we will be making sure the City has checked them out to see if they are working. The fire trucks have water on them but I would assume if there was lots of water needed they would need to get to a hydrant. As far as we know there hasn't been any mobile home fires here in the park. There is a video on channel 5 and also on 4 I think. At noon there was pictures and video of the fire.

death at R.V.E.

We are sorry to report Kerr's mobile caught fie and Rachel was found dead in the mobile

Friday September 6th

There's not much to report today...
We had our usual Coffee and Donuts, and Darlene Bryant provided them although she is still in Iowa. So Bobby picked them up for her. She said it would be another month before she comes home. Tom and Connie Duffy have been here for a short time and after Coffee and Donuts they left for home. Connie is to have foot surgery the 13th and can't bear weight on it for 2 months.
It's been raining every day, we get pretty big downpours. the mower people are falling behind.
Gary Philipp's just found out his Mother has Cancer.
Bob Kerr said Rachel is quite a bit better. We saw them the other day and she did seem more like herself.
Did I tell you all that Bobby had real problems with his computer and mine was running really slow and freezing up. We had a fellow Elk, Dave Hill worked on both of ours. He was very reasonable, he's retired now and does this for something to do, my computer works like a new one and it's 7 years old!!! Our Friend Tom who used to work on computers doesn't answer his phone messages any more and we heard he is working in Harlingen, probably no time for it now. I have Daves phone no. and email if you need it.
We proofed our park photo directory. I mentioned that on Facebook.I got it back over to Creative Images. They really did a great job getting all our cell phone nos, zip codes home phone nos. etc. They made a few mistakes on some of the picture pkgs. but over all a darn good job. I think someone else needs to step up and coordinate the pictorial album next time, which will be in 3 years. We have done it 3 times now.

Just a note

Rain rain rain

We can sure use it but enough already!
We have gotten over 2 inches probably closer to 3. and we still are to get some scattered storms today and tomarrow. the lawns are getting pretty shaggy, very hard to keep up.

Last Friday Colleen Clark provided the donuts for us. Not much talked about except if we were going to have a little get-to-gether on Labor Day. We decided to have a potluck. Also Mgr. Helen said the carpets were going to be cleaned Wednesday in the lobby and pool room.
I sent cards to Harris shellito, new knee, Mary Norby had some knee surgery for problems with her knee she had replaced, also a card for Evelyn McBurney her husband Warren passed away
Some folks will be coming in this next month, it's just as hot up North right now as down here, I saw that some schools in Iowa let classes out early because of the heat. But it won't last long, Falls just around the corner! I miss the beautiful Fall foliage!

Friday August 2nd

We arrived in Albert Lea Minn. today. The weather is so nice. Cool for this time of year. There sure are alot of fields here that are bare, as they had so much rain they couldn't get the crops in. I didn't notice any bare fields South of here in Iowa. We stayed in Spencer, IA Wed. night, and then last night, Emmetsberg,IA. and there was a very light shower but they could really use a good rain.
We will travel on over to Clermont Sun. We are in a real nice KOA outside of Albert Lea, and my Sister, Mickey, who spent a few months at our park, has a cabin rented here at the KOA for the time we will be here. We just had a great meal at her Daughters house in Albert Lea.

Talked to Sue Barnhart and she said this morning at the park, Al Mason furnished the donuts only about 15 there. Sam and Helen flew out today, their Son is retiring from the Air Force.

Sue said the trees around the pool were trimmed.

Donna Passage on lot 5 is out of re-hab and will be leaving the park. She was in the hospital with heart problems. She is going back to Michigan.

I am going to buy some" Kandy Corn" sweet corn tomarrow and hope to freeze some and take home.
That's a popular type of sweet corn that's really good. Can't wait to have a real tomato, and some Ill. peaches!!!!!!!!!!!! at the Campout.
                                                                HOME SWEET HOME

Bye all

Vacationing for the next few weeks, so there won't be too much news from me, however I keep in contact with Sue Barnhart and our Manager, Helen, so if there's something news worthy I will post.

We stayed last night in Homewood Kansas, a really nice r.v. park, free wi-fi, beautiful huge trees.
We went to the Sirloin Stockade in Ottawa,KS. for dinner last night and Denny and Becky Rhoades met us there. They live around 20 miles from there.Denny was a childhood friend of mine, and he and Becky are also very good friends and former neighbors of the Argos. They came down and stayed a month or two at R.V.E. 2 years ago, we encouraged them to come back again.

We were very sad to hear that while Darlene Griffin was visiting her Daughter in Urbandale Iowa, her dog Princess died, she had her with her but don't know what happened. She is very devistated.
Pat Hamlet is taking care of cards in Irene and my absence and she is putting a card up for Dar.
If you wish to send one: Darlene Griffin, %Danette Hubbs, 12329 Sunflower Dr.,Urbandale,IA. 50323

Very nice weather in Kansas and also now here in Iowa, I had to wear a sweatshirt this morning, ha ha ha!!! Such a relief from S. Texas, 100 degrees.

Aloha Good and Marian Beauregard provided donuts this morning. They like going to a bakery in Mercedes so they got the donuts there. I heard they got really great apple turnovers that went over big!!! Also blueberry muffins. It was Aloha's Birthday

Well, I better get my jacket and walk over to the Casino and win some more money...we could use a little traveling money when we start home

Friday July19th

Bobby built a duck house so now we have ducks running around the park!!
Lol Lol
I took these pictures of some whisling ducks and their newly hatched chicks, they were near the Motel fence then walked over across to behind Bev and Dels mobile and were running all back in there, I tried to steer them towards the back of the park but they wouldn't go that direction. The one duck charged at me!!!!
We had 18 for coffee and donuts. I guess until some get back from their mini vacations it will be like that. John and Irene Quail provided the donuts this morning.

We didn't get much rain as forecasted for the Valley  in the last few days, some got spotty brief heavy downpours, we have another chance for today.

Not much to report this week. Gloria Hauser had a new hip put in. She will be going to rehab for awhile. She said before the surgery she was in terrible pain, and now Ellis said she just complained about the stitches bothering her. So I guess it went real well for her.

There's been quite a few of you with knee, hip, etc. problems but I haven
t been informed of these folks. I do know Bev Talley had some hip surgery, Jerry Maxwell with some knee problems, and also Mary Nelson. I talked to Stan Burkinshaw the other day and he said Jeanie was doing good after her knee surgery which was about 5 weeks ago.

Former residents Buzz and Jo have had to have their hearts shocked to get the heart back in rythym, Buzz is doing well, Jo said she had to have several"jolts" but hopefully now doing better.

Ken and the boys have been working in the hot hot weather out in the 99's this week getting many sewer hook ups replaced, moving some over so they don't get run over so easily. They want to get those useless telephone thingys taken out but need to call the phone co. to see what they say.

It sounds like alot of fun will be had at the Campout this year, with 2 cruises up the Mississippi, Mary Lou Benson said the 1st one filled up so fast that they now have a 2nd one scheduled. Marc Frana will be playing his music one night also. So we will see some of you in August!
