Apartment complex

A brand new 16 unit apartment complex is now here in the park!
built by Bobby. Within 24 hours there were a pair looking at the new apartments! In and out and acting quite excited, there was even a third resident interested in an apartment. The one fellow chased off a large pale yellow breasted guy several times as if to say "Hey this is our new home". We are so excited about this as we have read it that one should not get too disappointed if they don't get any interested lookers for up to 2 years and it has only been less than 24 hrs! Located on Barnharts corner! Picture below...

 Memorial Day

- C W Johnson

We walked among the crosses

Where our fallen soldiers lay.

And listened to the bugle

As TAPS began to play.

The Chaplin led a prayer

We stood with heads bowed low.

And I thought of fallen comrades

I had known so long ago.

They came from every city

Across this fertile land.

That we might live in freedom.

They lie here 'neath the sand.

I felt a little guilty

My sacrifice was small.

I only lost a little time

But these men lost their all.

Now the services are over

For this Memorial Day.

To the names upon these crosses

I just want to say,

Thanks for what you've given

No one could ask for more.

May you rest with God in heaven

From now through evermore.

Have a great Memorial Weekend. We will be enjoying potluck with everyone here in the park.
This morning Mary Freundshuh and Gene Koliba provided the donuts. Our crowd seems to be getting smaller and smaller. We did have a good turn-out for Social Hour, Wednesday. The new residents, in 165, Tom and Bonnie  Cassidy were there. Tom is a retired Minister. Thursday Barnharts, Cassidy's and Bobby and I went to Salazars Reataurant for the burgers and home made fries.!
No cards up to sign! So guess everyone is doing good and staying well!
Ranchero folks are coming to use our pool as work is being done around their pool, but now our heater is broke. The water is getting pretty cold. We will see how long people will brave the cold water.

New digital electric meters

This is our new "Smart Meter" ! AEP is in the process of changing out the old electric meters with these "smart meters", it's a digital meter. the electric co. will no longer have to have a meter reader come out and read your meter. Soon your new meter will detect power outages and we dont have to call them, so repairs can begin quickly.
You will be able to better understand your usage habits and make decisions to help lower your bill, you can go on line and view your daily use etc. I am reading and reporting what the brochure that was left on our door about the new meter. You have to go on line and register on.... smartmetertexas.com website. You will have to have your meters No. and also an I.D. no. which will be on your electric bill. I don't know if this site will be up and running really soon or what. This is of course for those in the mobiles and those who pay electric bills through the electric co. not the 99's

Friday May 18th

We are saddened this week to learn of Lorraine Studors death. We sent a card to George. She had a rough Winter here this year. A card was sent.
There is a card up for Linda Bower who's in the hospital.

Even tho some of our year-rounders are gone for awile we still had a pretty good turn-out for coffeee and donuts this morning. We discussed what we were going to do on Memorial Day. We decided just a potluck will do. Darlene said she would make iced tea.
The donuts were provided by Aderton's. Harell is suffering so from shingles and has had them a very long time.

We had visitors this morning, Wayne and Kay Carter who bought #246, Bobby Thomas's mobile, are here for a few days. They are from Waco,TX.

All the lawns in the park look so nice, mowing people doing a great job.

Not much to write about this week, beautiful weather, cool mornings and evenings, humidity has been low so far.
If you need a card for someone call me, I have a new cell phone but the no. is the same.

May 11th

We had a nice turnout for our Wednesday social hour. Some really tasty appetizers.
We ladies are looking forward to Sunday and being waited on hand and foot!!!. Ken Barnhart and my husband, Bobby, are serving up some smoked chicken and all the fixins! We have 50 signed.  We are going to meet a new resident, who just bought  285, he signed up to come.
Bob and Rachel Kerr provided the donuts this morning, from Shipley donuts, quite a treat! We had around 25 there. Bob ran over to McAllen at about 6:20 a.m.and picked them up.
I am doing the cards since Irene is gone, we do not have any cards up to sign at the moment.
Some folks from Ranchero village will be coming over to use our pool some, while theirs is being worked on.

I took this picture as you would look out West across from the showers in the 99's, on the left side of the picture, you can see they have built up the dirt along the sides of the ditch

Below is a picture I took to show the dirt work being done
behind the R.V. storage area and they've grated all along the irragation ditch clear on over to Westgate near the R.R. tracks

We escaped another bad storm last night, North of us really got some big rains, tornado warnings, and hail. we had quite alot of lightening and thunder and a good rain. We are supposed to have good chances of rain for the next several days.

Friday May 4th

The Hausers provided our donuts this morning. We had around 35 people here.
Irene sent cards to the family of Ken Cook, he passed away, and there's a card for Billy Langley, she lives in Llano Grande Lake Park, and both her and her husband were well known by quite a few folks here, for singing at  Karoake at the Elks and at Llano Grande. Her husband Bill died.A card for Dick Gibson, his nephew died.
Albeza Vallejo had a major stroke and is going to San Antonio for rehab.

It sure is dry here, the grass is starting to look brown. But no rain in the forecast. I noticed the guys were power washing the benches on the shuffleboard court, getting ready to paint and they have been painting the light poles around the office and park. The city finally mowed the big lot to the South of us and bailed it yesterday. They have done alot of dirt work on the south side of the ditch, resaca or what ever you call it, building up the sides and  leveling alot of dirt and also on the Southwest of the park, in the field.

Weed and insecticide granules have been spread on the west side of the 99's, yellow caution tape is across the whole area along that strip so we should avoid walking our pets along that back fence for awhile.

Scott Piper came to our Coffee and donuts this morning.
One of our residents who became engaged this last Winter, has told his fiancee that she may come in to the park, using his clicker to check on his mobile and also she ask to use the pool as she was having Grandkids for a couple weekends .It is a temporary situation..Scott said.  Many residents did not think it right to allow this, but they did not know she had gotten the Mgrs. permission. Scott has spoken to the gentleman and has given the ok for her to use the pool and check on his mobile, Scott said she will become a resident here after they marry. She felt she was being harrassed by folks here in the park and some folks told her that only residents who are here in the park and have guests visiting are allowed to use the pool, since the gentlman is out of state for the summer, and she is not yet a resident here.
We also discussed with Scott that maybe our clickers should be reprogrammed occasionally to keep people who are no longer residents or who might have a clicker that isnt supposed to have one,be reprogrammed and he said it might be a good idea but it would be when everyone had returned from the Summer.
Scott is looking into a rule which states only residents with overnight guests may use the pool, as this was once a rule years back. I just found out Scott checked the rules about that and said there is no rule that the guests must be overnight guests to use our facilities.
