Some One-Liners About God

Give God what’s right .. not what’s left.

A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing.

In the sentence of life, the devil may be a comma ..

but never let him be the period.

Don’t wait for six strong men to take you to church.

We don’t change God’s message. His message changes us.

The church is prayer-conditioned.

Plan ahead .. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.

Suffering from truth decay? Brush up on your Bible.

Exercise daily. Walk with the Lord.

Nothing else ruins the truth like stretching it.

Read the Bible. It will scare the hell out of you.

And this one ..

NEVER GIVE THE DEVIL A RIDE.

HE WILL ALWAYS WANT TO DRIVE.

I assume the notation across top of this page that reads “Volume 50” means this is YEAR NUMBER 50 a park newsletter has been written. Current editor Mary Lou Benson inherited the job in 1997

(25 years ago) when Tom & I purchased mobile at Lot #67. Owners prior to that were Canadians Ross & Phyllis Caruthers. Phyllis gave me an electric typewriter & said “This goes with the trailer .. I’m the news editor .. it’s your job now!” So that’s how I got “hired” for job as editor 😊 Got this pattern I use from Dale Cleland who some of you may remember?

Smile for the Day
Due to a power outage, the house was very dark .. so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3 yr. old girl to hold a flashlight high over her Mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Little Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his feet & spanked him on his bottom. He began to cry.
The paramedic asked the wide-eyed 3 yr. old what she thought about what she had just witnessed. She quickly responded “He shouldn’t have crawled in there in the first place. Spank him again!”

note

Dave and Kathy Cochran's Daughter passed away , she has been fighting Cancer for quite some time.

I also have a card up for Dave Hicks, having health issues.

John & Dale Norris got the donuts this last Friday. We had a good turn out.  Next Friday will be the last week for Friday Donuts, the office  will buy and I will pick them up.

We have had such lovely weather, lows in the 60's and highs in 80's.

We had a crowd for "Tic" last Wed. and also for Wed. Happy Hour.

Note

Jim Moellers wife Alice passed away the 16th They lived at Lot 178

Talking with Roberto the other day and he just can't take on any more yards, he has so many. I am sure Gil would mow for you if you haven't made arrangements yet

We had a nice turn out for Dummy Rummy Sat. and for Wed. night "Tic" average of 5 tables or so. The hot tub still out of commission😞😞.

Yes, I decided to coordinate another park pictorial album....this makes my 6th time doing this and hope to get a few to help. I really would like some pictures taken of the different activities, or maybe we will choose to not have any pics except for the residents pics.

The flea market was open this weekend!  It will be a great place to visit again this Winter. More little buildings going up

We have such beautiful sunrises and sunsets here in the Valley

Still making badges!!!Can you believe it???
I will do one for you,

note

No info about the mowing situation as yet. Roberto has taken on all the yards he cares to mow. So Gil may be the one to talk to.

A note

Flo has been mowing lawns here for years, he is leaving for good Sat. I heard he has already sold his mower, anyway I am possibly going to use a new man here in the park, he is going to come and look at my yard, which is a simple mow as my patio and sheds take up all the back and just the sides and front  to mow.  He may be interested in doing others lawns. I will talk to him about it this afternoon

I will let you  know tomarrow what I find out. I have my own mower and weed eater and blower, but some may not. Or if you wish to call me, no problem.

A quick note

The card room is done and the lobby almost done, next is the office area.  It really looks nice.

For some reason the hot tub has been out of commission for a long time, hoping they get it fixed.

A lot of digging in the 99's  more larger  sites for R.V.S.

The lot where the flea market was is all cleared off of debris, well, mostly cleared off. A huge concrete slab is there and people starting to build little buildings, I think  by Nov./ Dec. there will be lots of them built.

The traffic here is getting really bad, I don't know how all the winter folks will fit in  lol

I have been going to Bingo at Southern Comfort, Trails End, and Ranchero, but only 3 more weeks then they do not let outsiders come. I wander about Ranchero since they're  our sister park if we can go there and if they can come here. It would be nice. I see no reason for not letting outsiders come for bingo in our Park, it makes the payouts larger and it's fun to get to know folks from other parks.

I went to a Luau over to Trails End, Diego and Edith played!! What fun! Over 50 people were there. Diego playing most Mon. afternoon happy hours at Snow To Sun.

Every day or night Diego plays somewhere. Our Halloween Party will be fantastic with Ron Mosher playing. He has really been playing a lot in the Valley this Summer also.

The Elks Chicken Sunday is the 23rd of this month. It's always so good, a little pricey but it's charitable event.

I apologize for not sending a card to the family of Kathryn Ratliff, and also for not getting a card to Karen Bolte, I think she had knee surgery with the flooring being put in and not many going into the lobby and we weren't allowed into the card room.

That's all for now, safe travels ya'll

Just a note

Good news!  We are doing a park pictorial album this year!  I am coordinating it and so far Judy DeKoning is a helper and I need a few more who are computer savvy. There's an all new program for putting the photo album together.

Our flooring is almost finished in the card room but all the stuff from the lobby is in there until it's completed, then the office is next. Sure will look different.

The Hummingbirds are back. Must be getting cooler up North? I miss the Fall. It's still hot here during the day. We had quite a few showers pop up and the next week calls for spotty showers. The grass and flowers are flourishing. Today around 92.

I've been enjoying going to Bingo at different parks this Summer. Southern Comfort, Trails End and Ranchero Village. Entertainment is really good at the Elks every Friday and Saturday nights.

We are having a Halloween Party so don't forget your costume, or be thinking of what you will wear.

Hurry back ya'll

Checking out at the Grocery Store

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the much older lady that she should bring her own grocery bags, because plastic bags are not good for the environment.
The woman apologized to the young girl and explained, “We didn’t have this ‘green thing’ back in my earlier days.”

The young clerk responded, “That’s our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations.”

The older lady said that she was right — our generation didn’t have the “green thing” in its day. The older lady went on to explain:
Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But we didn’t have the “green thing” back in our day.

Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags that we reused for numerous things. Most memorable besides household garbage bags was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our school books. This was to ensure that public property (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribblings. Then we were able to personalize our books on the brown paper bags. But, too bad we didn’t do the “green thing” back then.
We walked up stairs because we didn’t have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks.

But she was right. We didn’t have the “green thing” in our day.

Back then we washed the baby’s diapers because we didn’t have the throw away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy-gobbling machine burning up 220 volts. Wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.

But that young lady is right; we didn’t have the “green thing” back in our day.
Back then we had one TV, or radio, in the house — not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen we blended and stirred by hand because we didn’t have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn’t fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn’t need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.

But she’s right; we didn’t have the “green thing” back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blade in a r azor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.

But we didn’t have the “green thing” back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service in the family’s $45,000 SUV or van, which cost what a whole house did before the”green thing.” We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn’t need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint.

But isn’t it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn’t have the “green thing” back then?

Please forward this on to another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smart ass young person.

We don’t like being old in the first place, so it doesn’t take much to piss us off… Especially from a tattooed, multiple pierced smartass who can’t make change without the cash register telling them how much.

August 19th

Hi everyone!

Well, it won't be long and we will start to see folks coming down for the Winter.!!

As I have said before this Summer has been the quietest I have ever seen it. Hard to get a game of cards up, very little participation for Coffee and Donuts and Happy Hour. We have some very nice new folks in the park who will be fun and participate. I have been going to Bingo at other parks this Summer. Really enjoying that,  I've met  a lot of people from Trails End, Southern Comfort, and Ranchero village.

Some of them where their Park badges, making it easier to remember their names and which park they're from. I hope  more of our folks will where their badges at the different functions this year with so many new people.I will be making badges so let me know if you need one or need to replace yours.

We finally got some much needed rain! I know forsure over 4 inches within a few days, it was very spotty and some got a lot more. The only bad thing is their picking  their cotton and there's huge bales around the countryside but a lot is still in the field and the cotton growers will not get the best prices for their cotton.

It sounds like everyone who went to the "Peachy Festival" in Southern Il. had a really great time. Sure wish I could have gone. Sure would like to see some pictures of all the activities ya'll attended. I know I heard the big dance and B.B.Q. out to Cochran's Sons  was really fun, And great food. A little line dancing I heard about!!

Around town there is quite a bit of new businesses going in.  A tremendous amount of new Apartment housing and home building. Weslaco growing  so fast! So sad to lose the Flee Market. It doesn't look like they are going to rebuild as yet, piles of rubble all over, slow cleaning up. Some buildings saved toward the back.

So much work being done here in the Park. Flooring going in a little slowly but it will be done when everyone gets back. I met Nathan's Daughter who was laying flooring in our card room, she really knows what she's doing. Pot holes filled and soon overlay will make our streets look nice. Pool kept up and sparkling clean. Mgr. Dan, when the guys were off was working hard  scrubbing the sides etc.  the pool looks great.

Some mobiles for sale, they refurbish some of them and they are really nice.

See ya soon!

July 30th

The new flooring in the card room and lobby has started. So we meet in the big hall for coffee and donuts and happy hour. What a mess. The glued down backing under the carpet had to be all scraped off. It will take quite awhile before it's finished but it will be so nice. Pergo? Don't know what it's called.

The Asst. mgr. has done a lot of pothole filling. And soon they will coat the roads with that tarry coating. Also the palms are being trimmed. The pool and spa have been so nice this Summer and the pool is always sparkling clean.

The ice machine has caused problems again this Summer, of course it says right on it not to be used outside. My friends at another park said they just did away with there's which had to sit outside as they had way too many  problems with it. The main users are the people who come in the park to work...and some who don't even belong in the park.

We missed some recent rains, we need it so bad, lawns getting brown. I know as far as LaFeria got a good rain the other day but it petered out by the time it got this way.

Fire

No more Don Wes Flea market.😢 It burned to the ground today

Tuesday, July 5, 2022

I am sure many of you got the letter from the park telling of all the work being done in the park, with Bill's new street signs, freshly painted Park street lights, Dan's new roofs, new skirting, and new siding. They also state they have a great sub contract crew that is renovating everything they own. and then the fence getting 2 & 3 coats of paint. Also planning to have new flooring in the Card Room, Lobby, and offices by the Fall. Lots of improvements going on. Also there are some rentals offered by the Park.

We had grilled hotdogs for the 4th, thanks to Ken, And all the nice decorations Sue and Margarete put up. I made some Coney dog Topping and others brought side dishes. We had several new residents come and they are all so nice. We invited them to participate in more activities.

Not only do we have the nicest kept park with the friendliest folks and terrific location , we have the best owners, who are making our park No. 1

Hope you do tell your friends about our wonderful park. New brochures were included in the letter most of you received

My new phone is much smarter than me and am having troubles with pictures. I have many already downloaded on my computer but it's the latest pictures I am having trouble uploading! I need to go over to Spectrum and get some lessons !!!!!

I always tried to include pictures in my blog but having so much trouble

Happy 4th of July

Note

We had a good turnout for our Father's Day Potluck. Sue read about the first Father's Day and Bev said grace. We had delicious chicken legs! Ken cooked them and we all brought a dish to share. We had a couple new folks and all the food was so good! Planning a 4th of July potluck also with hot dogs furnished.

A lot of road patching going on. Strips of concrete where the roads were so bad.

My 2 friends  (who have Birthdays the same days as mine) all went out to lunch Friday.Mr. Gattis!

Also had a BBQ rib dinner in McAllen at LoneStar BBQ with home made peach cobbler with home made icecream. Was that ever good!!! It's located on North 10th street.

There was a "Tic" game last night and April came. She just had a new knee put in recently

Got to go , later!!!!

Saturday, June 11, 2022

I have had to make quite a few cards the last week or two. Yvonne Schurman passed away, Former residents,Verlyn Westrum, and  Ann Thorpe died. Diana Bruce just passed away on the 10th

Also made cards for April Walling, knee surgery. Marylyn Mason knee surgery and Dave Johnson hip replacement.

Happy hour has been well attended, but Friday Donuts and Coffee have not been.

The park looks so nice and the pool is sparkling clean, thanks to Juan and Juan has taught a new man to clean the pool. The only thing is they take a long time and still working on it close to 8:30 or later.

Tuesday, May 24, 2022

 Hello everyone

We had one heck of a thunder and lighning storm last night  and early this morning. Some wind but no damage that I heard of here in our area. Just lots and lots of rain, which we needed, but not all at once!!!

Last Friday Sue and Ken furnished the donuts, very small crowd, Sat. we had one table for "Dummy Rummy"

BTY the park has gotten most of the potholes taken care of.

We are sure getting  quite a few more businesses here in Weslaco, as I mentioned before. I sure love Mr Gaetty's pizza, located where Luby's was. Been there 3 times already.!!!

My computer is sick so I am using a back up computer, My old one may not be fixable.

Sunday, May 15, 2022

Just a note as there's not much news to talk about. Just hot  weather continuing. The weatherman said no change for the next 10 days , no rain, and we could sure use rain.

Dick Gibson in the hospital again, ambulance took him a few days ago.

Kathy Cochran is to have knee surgery.

I missed going to Friday coffee and donuts and was told several new folks were there. It was decided we would have Wednesday happy hour, so looking forward to that. We did have a table for "dummy rummy" Saturday and played "tic" last night.

The pool looks so inviting, but with my broken humorous I am a little leery of trying to go in with one arm. I fell on my right side on my puppys toy and broke my arm about 2 inches below my shoulder, so therapy and time  will hopefully heal my shoulder and get it moving again.

This is the quietist Summer I have ever seen in the 30 years I have been in the park.
