Friday donuts June 26th

Well, it's not long until the 4th of July will be here! The Summer is going fast! Our temperatures down here are highs in the upper 90's mostly 100 to lows in the upper 70"s. But still the evenings and mornings are lovely and always a breeze.
We had a nice shower this last week and the park looks good.
Gas prices in Weslaco range from $2.44 to $2.57 and diesel around $2.44 per gallon.
I added a link to Mary Lou's web site slowboattonursinghome.com click on Mary Lou's web site at the bottom of this page. It's very interesting reading!
It won't be long and we will be heading for a vacation in Iowa, and will go to the Campout in Clermont. The date for the campout is Aug. 2nd to the 8th.For reservations call The Skipaway Campground, 563-423-7338. There are also 4 motels nearby if you don't have a camper. There's talk of going on a Riverboat Cruise for our day out!! Wouldn't that be fun?
I have heard several people say they're going on a trip to Alaska? Mary Lou and Tom Benson and Joyce and Gordon Amos, and some others. Sounds like a neat place to go for a trip, and I bet the weather would be really nice.
We had our regular"Coffee and Conversation" this morning with Irene and John Quail providing the donuts.
I counted 30 people there. Visitors, Patty Lamps daughter is visiting them for a week or so, and Norman and Catherine Gibbs were there.
Connie announced that they are hiring new Asst. Mgrs. to start July 6th. They were Winter Texans but now full time. Clara and Larry. Earnie and Gail left our park and were hired at Ranchero. They had been going over there alot and they have a large wood working building over there, they were wanting to go there before coming here as I understand it. And our new buuilding wasn't getting built soon enough to suit them, Connie said the guys are getting a new building but it may not be as big as what they planned earlier. Scott and Walter both have been on quite long vacations, kind of hard to get major decisions and approvals until they return. The hot tub is drained and they're to start tommarrow on the new resurfacing, also the motor went out on it so they will get it up and running again soon.
We are having a dinner the 4th of July! Bill Clement said he would provide the burgers and buns and Bobby Thomas will fire up his grill
;;)
More later...

Our Asst. Mgrs quit! Several reasons as I understand
The potluck in Iowa in Story City at the Carousel Park at noon!
Rollo and Arlene said they had 250 people sign their guest book at their 50th. It was really nice.
Until next time bye bye

Trying out Smilebox

I have been trying smilebox to send pictures but I am having trouble viewing them, myself. Bobby has no problem at all. I hope you have better luck. I am on dial up and it takes forever to download the pictures and view them. I have quite a few good pictures I took for the park album, but of course couldn't use them all, so I may post some more if I hear from folks that they could view them ok.
Last night the Mgrs. were out late putting out some ant poison. The cutter ants are having a field day around the park. Especially in the 400's behind me. They have eaten every leaf off of every rose bush along the 400's, Walters and Tomasiewicz. Also in the grass at the 99 bathrooms.
The new Shrimp House Restaurant is open now. It's where the Chinese restaurant was on Westgate. It is probably a good place to eat but when we walk around that end of the park it stinks just like it did when the Chinese restaurant was there.
There are 3 cards for us to sign...Tom Anderson - surgery for tumor in bladder, Catherine Gibbs - Brother passed away, and Marilyn Loutzenhiser's Father passed away.
Take care and we miss all of you!

Happy Father's Day

hughesnet

Sponsored by: hughesnet

Coffee and Conversation ,June 19th

We had our Friday coffee and donuts this morning. There wasn't a whole lot to chat about. We are having fried chicken for Father's Day Sunday and bringing a side dish. There was a pancake Supper while we were gone as I understand.
Connie talked a little about what the guys were up to. They have torn down the coral around the 2 dumpsters in the back by the 99 bathrooms. And they will build a small coral or fence by their brush trailer, and hopefully with Walts approval there will be 4 corals along the back for all the dumpsters and none behind the hall.
The pool area looks real nice and the pool is nice and clean. The flowers in the 4 urns are doing great that Connie planted. With the nice rains we had, the grass and yards look pretty and green. We could use some more though.
That's about it for now.

Former resident passes away

Bernie Juliot of Anoka MN. passed away June 13th, many of you may remember him and his wife Bea. I think the last year they were here was 2006.

cards sent

In the last few weeks Irene sent cards to
Ron Ruser I-5 had knee surgery
Sherry Cheatum #275 Mother passed away
Jackie Anderson #228 surgery
Paul Ziaja #276 in and out of hospital several times
Mary Hennigar #102 and Patty Lamp #86 Mother in hospital
Fred Swaggert #249 had stints put in
Judy Nordquist #77 had knee surgery
Bill Clement #4 had eye surgery
and a card sent to the family of Don LeBeau#84 as he passed away

I was talking to Connie this morning and she said Mgr. Jack and Asst. Mgr. Earnie painted all the benches at the Shuffkeboard court!!! this last week Javier and Adrian had to put in all new gas stakes throughout the whole park, which took almost a week to do. So sounds like they're doing alot of work here. Just before we left there was a nice rain and they've had quite a bit of rain since, so there's lots of mowing being done.

Back from Vegas

Hi
We just got back late this afternoon. We had a very interesting trip. We saw alot of different weather, dust storm,a hail and thunder storm, very high winds (worse than I ever drove in)a grasslands fire, which burned 18,000 acres, heat in Texas of 105, and cool weather in New Mexico, down in the 50's. We were very glad to get home.
I was sorry to hear that Don LeBeau passed away, he was the friend of Ken Meyer,
and lived at #84. I will get the list of cards sent from Irene to post as soon as possible.
We were pleasantly surprised to see that Expressway 83 is completed from Harlingen to Weslaco now, it is very nice. also saw there has been alot of headway made in the new Lowes building near the new Penny's store East of WalMart.A lot of work done on the stadium across from us, now erecting the home side. and the new bank on Pike and Wedstgate is being bricked right now
I will add more in the next few days and maybe a picture or two.
