I swear folks are coming earlier and earlier for Coffee and donuts on Fridays! We came about 7:10 and most were already there. Dorothy Ritter furnished the donuts this morning.John Norris and Dale are down here from Ft.Worth, they live at 171, also Dales Brother, Wayne Carter and wife, Kay from Waco are here. They are at #246 here. Only 14 other people for donuts today. also Larry Dixon is back ☺
I visited with Jack Bardon this morning, he has been in the hospital for infection.. He said they kept him over the weekend because no one was there to get him checked out over Sat. - Sun. He said they're going on vacation soon.
We are having a neat 4th of July dinner, Chopped brisket on buns with potato salad, chips, tea, and dessert. Ken Barnhart has worked so hard the last 2 4th of July's to make it fun, with really clever decorations for the tables and fun games to play, but quite a bit of his decorations all got thrown away,I know the ones for table decorations did (big red, white, and blue, firecrackers he made are gone.
We had a fun time at the Mustang Lounge yesterday! It's located on the South side of the frontage road, just passed 1015 and that motel. Before they opened several years ago,the owner and her friend painted the most beautiful, full wall murials of a big bunch of Mustangs running, and another bid murial of some at a watering trough including a cute little burro, it's told that Burros run with Mustangs in the wild. On what I would call a balcony above the first floor are some lifelike statues of horses, you've got to see it to believe it. The prices are very reasonable and since we called in the day before and ordered 3 large pizzas, the owner who does alot of the cooking had them all ready when we arrived, she makes them and they were the best!
Tom and Ruth Bergstedt, former R.V.E.ers were there and another couple from their park, and 16 of us. They also make the best hamburgers and fries, and chicken wings.
I sent Jeanie Burkinshaw a card from all of us, she has had a new knee put in.
It looks like the Longhorn steak house is just about done,I thought the sign said opening on the 16th of July. now there's another building going up just west of there, but I don't know what it's going to be yet.
Quails have one of these in their yard, they are so pretty this time of year! It's a Royal Poinciana tree
they are in bloom around Weslaco now. also the Crape Myrtle in lots of pretty colors are bloomimg, Farleys, next to us have a Crape Myrtle in a pretty dark Pink. The Valley has the most beautiful flowering trees and shrubs. Some flower best when in very dry hot conditions, like the Purple Sage, Oleanders, and Orchid trees . We are to be 102 - 103 for highs and lows 80's for the next 4 days,
then we are supposed to get a small chance for a shower and it's to get down to a chilly 97 degrees!

June 7th
Del & Bev Telfor provided donuts this morning, a small group of us!
Mgr. Helen gave us an update on Sam, he's been in the hospital for about a week now, they gave him several MIR's and today they hope to get the last cat-scan to make sure the blood has absorbed into his system as he had a light stroke. She also reported the latest with our golf cart, the one boy who was caught back in the park again (the one Ken subdoed)is in jail, and also the boy who was with him when it was stolen. Both were on probation and the detective said he was pretty sure they will serve a year or so in the detention center. The other one who took off on the 2nd visit is not facing any charges.
I also made a card for Bill Clement who had toe surgery yesterday and a card for George Struder who has shingles, I think someone said he has had them 3 times! This time I was told he has them around his eye and forhead.
Also we sent a card to Bonnie & Tom Cassidy's Son-in-law, Alex, who broke his legs in a motorcycle accident, A card to Stan Floyd who has been in the hospital with blood pressure problems. I made a card earlier for Don Gordon who had back surgery and from what I could understand from Marie, (who was pretty flustered when I talked to her last night) he's in pretty critical condition. His COPD has kept him in the hospital along with many other medical problems, I will keep you posted.
I changed the size of the font hoping you may view the news a little better, someone said it was kind of small print. If I can remember to do it each time! LOL
The new carwash and Chick Fillet going in at Westgate and Expressway 83 has some block walls up already, it will probably go up fast.
We who wanted to went to Peter Pipers pizza last Tuesday, they were so busy, lots of bus loads of kids there but the pizza was good and they did an amazing job baking up those pizza's!
Last night there were 3 tables playing "Tic" we had a good time. And of course there's always a couple tables of Canasta on Mon., Wed, & Fri. afternoons.
It's hot here!! Upper 90's every day. Upper 70's at night. But morning and evenings are beautiful!
Come on down for a visit and for you all in Minnesota and Canada come on down and warm up!!!

Don't Mess With Ken Barnhart
You have heard the expression "Don't mess with Texas" well, around the park we now use the expression "Don't mess with Ken!" About 2 weeks ago 2 young men came in the park and came in to get a drink when we were playing Canasta. Some of the ladies ask what they were doing in the park and they said visiting their Grandma. they ask what grade they were in and when school would be getting out etc. They seemed real polite and nice....but...when I left to go home my golf cart was not there, well, I went on home thinking Bobby had come up and took it for some reason. I got home and he said he hadn't taken it. So I went back up to the hall and just before I got there, Aloha was going by in her car, she asked if I was looking for my golf cart, I said yes and she said 2 boys were riding around on it, she wasn't sure if it was ours and stopped and ask them what they were doing and they said they had permission to drive it and that they were visiting their Grandma here in the park and she lived at 210. She still followed them for a bit and they stopped and asked "Are you following us?" We told you we have permission. So when she saw me walking and I told her our cart was missing , I hopped in with her to go find them. We didn't find them but Bill Clement said they went out the park and turned South. We went out of the park looking for them but didnt see them and I called the police then and they came out. Made out a report etc. Well, 2 days ago Ken Barnhart was just going out of the park when he met 2 boys coming in. They said they were going to visit their Grandma in 210. He knew right then these were the same boys who were in here and stoled our cart. He told them they needed to come to the office to be signed in as a visitor to be able to be in the park, they jumped in the car with him. When they got to the office and were being questioned they said their Grandma lived at 210, Ken said there's no one at living at 210 right now and they said maybe it was 2210, they decide to get the heck out of the park and took off running, well, Ken tackled the one boy and subdued him and picture this...Martha Millender chased the other boy but didn't catch him!!! the police were called and waiting on the police Ken had to hold down the boy as he wanted to get away, when the police came they immediately recognized the boy as they arrested him days before for getting in an altercation with a teacher at school. the boy admitted taking the golf cart. They took the kid to jail. A day or so later police recovered the cart. The boy with him was not the same one who was in the park and took our cart, don't know if they got him or not.Quite a bit of excitement and we were gone and missed it all!
