Fun times

From Agnes Messner

July 1-5, we had our Texas gathering with four couples and Earl. We decided to have this camp out at Cypress River, Manitoba where Yvonne and Gerry De Smet hosted. They had a real fun week for us starting with floor shuffling tournament in the morning, a luncheon and more shuffling all at the senior center on Tuesday. Wednesday, we had a tour of their daughters chicken barn operation which was very informative and interesting to see how it all works.

Then had our usual pot luck supper as every day of the week where everyone said what they would bring and ate together. Then went to Yvonne and Gerry's place to play a board game, Dirty Board.
Thursday was another full day of shuffling to complete our tournament without Henri and Fran as they left mid morning and Ross and Kathy had an app so came back later in the day and had our usual pot luck supper. We ate lunch at the senior center again also.
Wonderful meals made there. Friday morning Larry and Diane Ateah, Earl Olafson, Ross and Kathy left for home and Gerald and I had some shuffling and luncheon at the center again with Yvonne and Gerry and left later in the afternoon for home. What a great time for everyone.
Following are some pics and a couple videos.

July 22nd

I forgot to publish this neat get-to-gether from Canada!  Geez  I am losing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You probably noticed I haven't written much lately....well, when there's no news to pass on ....what can I say!

We are all experiencing the hot weather but we are suppose to have a weak cold front come in later this afternoon with possibly some rain, more likely though tomarrow, with lows all the way down to 75 to 77 highs only mid 90's. We are just starting to get pretty dry here so the rain will be welcomed., even though  spotty.

Nancy and Denny Argo furnished donuts last Friday and the Friday before, Dorothy Ritter furnished them. So many folks gone for the Summer or for a few weeks so attendance has been small.

Update on Dolores Mason who fell and cracker her tale bone...she's doing much better.

I have been contacted by some folks looking to rent a mobile for 3 months. If you have one for rent let me know and I will pass it on.

Sure is quiet here in the park.

July 5th

July 4th Scraps, Graphics and comments
GoodLightscraps.com

Hope you all had a great 4th!

Sorry to hear of the passing of Marilyn Loutzenhiser. she had her motor home on F-1 for quite a few seasons. Also former redident, John Whited from Carroll, Iowa passed away

In the hospital -  George Krantz#63, he had some tests and is home with I.V. for a pretty bad infection and will have the I.V. for 2 weeks. Joyce Amos E-9 having back problems and is in the hospital in Omaha. Talked to Sharon Barksdale   Gary Lungren having back issues also.

Our jacuzzi is a disaster, it has to be redone, I do know there are only some jets working and the resurfacing was unsatisfactory.

Still many people out of their homes due to the awful flooding. The whole area in and around Santa Rosa, still under water, and it's been a week. We are so  fortunate here in our area. Like I said our friends who live West of Harlingen with 27 inches of water in their home and also their car was destroyed, They said they got in their home just the other day and it was really bad.

There's still some roads closed around, water has not receded.  Our park looking good, some broken limbs taken care of.  Grass growing like crazy! We had a very big crowd for Happy Hour Wed. A new couple that bought 55 , plus quite a few folks who haven't been coming regularly, I's sau close to 30 there.
Costleys furnished our donuts today. Linda Palermo home, working on getting her strength back.
Let us know if a card is needed for anyone....

Storm

Many people have asked about what damage was done during the storm Monday night and early Tuesday morning. It wasn't supposed to be much of a rain  but the front coming down from Oklahoma wasn't expected to reach clear down here, but it did and a front coming up from Mexico met it, over us, especially Western Cameron county. It stalled out over us,  7 to 14 inches of rain. shelters open
in many towns, including here in Weslaco. Several people in the park said their rain gauges got full and they had to empty them a couple times, around 8 to 9 inches here. Western Harlingen hit hard with 14 inches, my friends in Palm Valley had 27 inches of water in their beautiful brick home on the golf course along with many others, they said it's the 3rd time it's happened. they have lived there  for 40 years. MonteAlto hit hard , a house roof blown off, there was high winds during this also, high winds right here in Weslaco. We had a lot of damage here with tree branches down, looked like possible lighning strikes, the lightning was terrific here and such loud claps of thunder, very frightening. Hardest hit area is said to be Sabastian , 4 inches of rain per hour, and on T.V. this morning the reporter there said it looks like a river as far as the eye can see there. Santa Rosa hit very hard many folks flooded out also LaFeria, 80 homes flooded. Lots of streets flooded yet from Alamo East, and we do have a 50% chance of rain today. streets here in Weslaco, S. on International Blvd, and I don't know how many other roads closed. Many Summer school activities cancelled

Lawn chairs in our pool, and lots of small branches and lots of palm tree debree all over the ground.
took the roof off Ken's Martin House.
With the high winds we are fortunate we didn't have more damage. The office will call if you have something that needs taking care of. some folks skirting blown out  but something like that can just be put back in. The North end of the park had higher levels of water, but not getting near into any homes, up to skirting or so. The outer mobiles on the North and around to Kolibas or so had electric, the office and card room had electric, but most of the park the electric was out since Mon. night at 11:00 p.m. or so until Tuesday early evening. Our frig and freezer kept things cold, only the icecream was soft, like Dairy Queen....the best thing is we are only 92 or so a little lower than the average temps for this time of the year.

June 21st

Today is the first day of Summer!  We are having terribly hot weather and today very very windy!
The hot tub has been drained and they will be sandblasting it. also the pool is closed!
I have been going to aqua-sizes each morning but I have friends in another park and will go over there until we can use ours.
Ken and Sue Barnhart provided donuts this morning.
Linda Palermo is quite ill. she's in the hospital and also Cathy Probst.
Dolores Mason is in re-hab, last word was she still can't get up on her own.
The kitchen is being painted! Sam Curtis, former mgr. is doing it.
We are having hamburgers on the grill this July 4th, thanks to the Curtis's and the Krantz's.

That's it for now!

June 14th

OMG  can't believe I have another Birthday just about here. I have a friend in my T.O.P.S. Club whose Birthday is the same day and also Janice Williams who lives at 57, ( here in the Park ) all three of us born on the same day. We are going to Jason's Deli for lunch and we also asked any of our T.O.P.S. members and all park ladies to join us. It will be fun!

We got the donuts this morning.

We had several nice downpours in the last few days. So thankful, we were getting pretty dry down here. Today , quite pleasant with low of 77 and high today only 95, pretty nice with just a light breeze. Now it will  back to hotter days but that's the norm for down here.
We had a very nice Wed. get-to-gether. Lots of happy hour snacks! Which I sure don't need. Since I weigh in at T.O.P.S. every Thursday morning, it makes me control myself a little more. 😇

I took a few pictures of our newly painted Hall...

You can see it's like an egg shell color, looks so clean and so glad they covered up the old gray paneling. Also  new lighting, LED lights, brighter and better lighting for the hall.
I keep wandering...what next?  Improvements are nice, especially after so long a time and so needed.
The hot tub is going to be sandblasted soon, it will be so nice. But  talk now is the pool will remain open, not real sure about that

We will be sending a card to Mary Cristianson, she crashed her car and has been in the hospital, soon to go to re-hab.

Keep cool and use sunscreen  😁
