January 10th Newsletter

 RVE CLUB MEETING – Chair Judy Nordquist called meeting to order. We recited “Pledge to the Flag” & sang “God Bless America”. Meeting closed by singing club song, ”We Love Our Valley Home”.

Board Members -- Properties – George Morgan, Lynn Stamp, Mark Probst; Finance – Vicki Davis, Gordon Amos, Sandy Olson. If you have issues to present, contact any board member. They sit in a group toward the right front of Friendship Hall prior to Monday meeting.

Virginia Baker gave Secretary report. It was approved.

Sandy Olson gave Treasurer’s report, accepted.

Mark Probst reported for Properties. He thanked all who have brought recycling items .. truck was full when they returned from up north. He will be taking recycling again tomorrow. Mark said you may bring computer/printer items too as these are accepted. He’s at Lot 54.

Chair Judy announced Wednesday Happy Hour is moving back to Friendship Hall, saying she was tired of looking at the dirty carpet in card room. We are having larger group & need the space. Help is needed setting up & cleaning up. Thanks to all!

If you don’t have an RVE name tag, check with Donna Gabbert who makes these. We encourage folks to wear these.

Donna Gabbert puts cards in office area for your signature. If you know of someone needing card due to illness or death in family, call her at 956-968-6684. Card this week was for Judy DeKoning upon death of her brother.

The board will cook biscuits & gravy breakfast Jan. 15, Feb. 5 &12. Ed Tice & crew will prepare pancake & sausage breakfast Jan. 22 & 29, Feb. 19 & 26. Serving is 7-8:30 a.m. Bring own table service. Price $5 pp.

Craig Daves, dance chair, encourages all to come enjoy tonight’s dance, 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. Roger Kenaston is providing music. He draws a big crowd so we hope to fill the hall. Admission is $7 pp. BYOB. Thanks to all who stay following morning meeting to put chairs on tables for floor cleaning. You may reserve table after 4 p.m

Marylyn Mason urges all to attend entertainment this Friday, the 14th … you’ll enjoy Rick McEwen. He entertains in Kenny Rogers style. Program begins at 7 p.m. 50-50 draw will be held.

Some folks, even those who are vaccinated, may be concerned about spread of Covid. Feel free to wear mask to any event/activity.

Thanks to Phyllis Branstetter & Pam Brustkern who served coffee & donuts prior to today’s meeting. There is a signup sheet if you wish to provide in honor of special occasion. If no one signs up, club will pay. Bring donuts by 8:15 a.m.

Tuesday Euchre has been cancelled due to lack of interest.

Wednesday 4 o’clock Happy Hour will be held in Friendship Hall. Bring snacks & your own beverage.

Chair Yoga is held after Monday morning meetings & on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Dana Daves leads.

Couple’s Line Dancing has begun, says Judy Shively. Lessons are Thursdays at 10 a.m. after regular Line Dancing. If there is enough interest, this may be held twice a week. Do not wear tennis shoes. For more info, call Judy at #12, 785-640-1444.

Park Pizza Party is at Peter Piper Pizza this week & each 2nd & 4th Wednesday after that. Be there at 11:30. Bring your Peter Piper mug if you have one. If not, they will give you a cup for free soda. Ice cream & prizes provided. Questions, check with Dean Ricke, #72.

Vic Greenlee invites golfers to play at Tierra Santa Thursday mornings. They have 3 standing tee times & car pools leave park at 8:20 a.m.

Anyone interested in golfing at Executive Course should find their own group. Tee start time is 11 a.m. We leave the park about 10:30 Friday morning, says Doug Novak. Players should record their score & turn in to Doug at #259 before Monday morning

The Flea Market is this Friday, 8 a.m. Sign up for a table, $2 each. Chair Lucy Johnson said lunch will be served at 10 a.m., pies needed. See signup sheet on board. You may set up your table Thursday, 3-6 p.m.

Kathy Cochran & Ken Barnhart have plans in the works for a “Flash Back to Fun” dance party on Jan. 20. Tickets are available, $10 pp. You may reserve entire table or single. Doors open at 5:30, eat at 6 p.m. Entertainment is 7-9 p.m. with DJ Jesse who would like folks to write oral request for songs. You may decorate tables after noon on Thursday & judging will be at 3 p.m. Table clothes will be provided on all tables. Feel free to cover them. We will provide table service, the meal (road kill?!), lemonade, tea & water. Bring drink of choice plus snacks. 50/50 tickets will be sold. Dress in whatever past costume you prefer or just wear regular clothing.

Maxine Topel announces Thursday, Jan. 27, residents should plan to attend Bean Feed. We’ll eat at 4:30 p.m.
