For those new to Rio Valley Estates, you are asked to complete the forms showing home address, phone number, lot number. Current residents who have changes in information should complete one too. You can find these forms in Friendship Hall or office area. These need to be completed & given to Dave Johnson at #93 as he prepares directories.

Board Members -- Properties – Ron Zoeller, Lynn Stamp, Mark Probst; Finance – Sandy Novak, Gordon Amos, Sandy Olson. If you have issues you’d like to present or discuss, you may contact a board member. They sit in a group up toward the right front of Friendship Hall prior to Monday meetings.

Ron wears another hat as chair of movie night on Thursdays. He will get this going as soon as Thursday night potlucks begin.

Welcome to new pastor who preached his first service here yesterday. Pastor Bob Amos is located in G-1 and announces he & his wife are available behind stage in Friendship Hall Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 8-9 a.m.

This is the FIRST park newsletter of the season. Editor is Mary Lou Benson, 956-532-9665. Please give her WRITTEN note of item you wish printed. Some may be edited for content/size. Give notes to her at Monday morning meetings or you may deliver to her at Lot #103. There is a clip on the front of steps if no one is home.

If you wish something printed Valley-wide of an activity OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, give note to Mary Lou as well. Some news media (Winter Texan Times in particular) will only take items for winter Texan calendar from ONE person in the park. Mary Lou has done this for many years .. but if anyone else wishes to do this, jump right in, let Mary Lou know! 😊

Many activities have begun Some include TIC tournaments on Wed. evening, Dummy Rummy tournaments on Sat. morning. Others announced as beginning this week are Line Dancing, Mexican Train, Pinochle, “31”. Bingo begins Nov. 16. Gordon Amos announced draw for golf at Executive Course is on Fridays, 10 a.m. Dave Johnson chairs Shuffling Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday. He encourages new shufflers to come see what this is all about. New shufflers needed! See schedule of activities on 1st page left of this weekly newsletter. If you’re new to the park, don’t be afraid to “jump in”. It’s a great way to get acquainted. Rio Valley Estates is known as the FRIENDLIEST park in the Valley! Anyone who has ideas for new games/activities should suggest them.

Dave Johnson #93 has park directories, $2 each.

Sharon Sprague at #244 has park picture books. You may purchase from her, $5 each. These are the books John Norris put together.

Activity Calendars are posted by Judi DeKoning. Editor thanks Judi for putting these up. Between that & what editor “remembers” from last season, names of chairmen are shown in left column, front page of newsletter. Let Mary Lou or Judi know of changes or corrections please!

EDITOR’S NOTE:

Don’t worry .. news will pick up as more folks arrive .. then you won’t have to put up with my silly jokes. Here’s some things I read on Facebook over the summer….

“A good friend does not put your name on the tag of the

gift bag. They know you’re going to reuse it!”

“We gotta start thinking about the world we’ll leave behind

for Betty White when we’re all gone!”

“I don’t think we get smarter as we get older …

we just run out of stupid things to do.”

“At the end of the day, I am grateful that my
blessings are bigger than my problems.”

MISCELLANEOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Marge Rexroad who has chaired Quilting for 15 years is “burned out” so is resigning. She encourages anyone who’d like to help (or chair) to volunteer. In past years MANY quilts have been given to needy throughout the Valley. You don’t have to be an expert quilter to help! We thank Marge for all she has done with this activity! All is set up behind stage in Friendship Hall.

Chuck & Nancy Gonnerman announce they will no longer chair St. Patrick’s Dinner which has been corn beef/cabbage the last few years. Previous to that a committee served Irish stew. Would someone want to volunteer for this? Committee would decide on menu.

Some residents of Rio Valley Estates have helped other seniors across the Valley serve Christmas Day dinner to 2000-3000 children in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. The non-denominational organization is known as Amigos de los Ninos de Mexico (definitition Friends of Children of Mexico). If you’d help, a planning meeting open to all will be held on Tuesday, Nov 12, 12:30 p.m. at Methodist Church in Donna.

Want to check out an “Iowa boy” who plays great steel guitar? He played at editor’s 1960 wedding dance & then played at her granddaughter’s wedding dance Sept. 28! His name is Lefty Schrage from West Union. RVE resident Diana Patrick had Lefty as school teacher. He plays with Dixon & Company at Hakuba’s Social Club when in Texas over the winter. Address is 911 N. Val Verde Rd, Donna. Lefty should be arriving from Iowa soon. They play from 3-6 p.m. There’s cold beer & room to dance. Some RVE residents enjoyed this last season. Get there early for a seat.

Some Puns I enjoyed ..

“She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.”

“Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.”
