Prior to meeting, Stroke Prevention rep “Stu” spoke. If wanting this Feb. 11 test, you need to sign up in advance. Offered are three wellness tests .. stroke/carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm & peripheral arterial tests at $110. Complete wellness package that includes osteoporosis test is $140. Single tests are $50.

MANAGEMENT REPORT: Manager Dan O’Dell spoke briefly about some of the “things he loves” in RVE. Included arenew flag on pole, blue chalk marks on ceiling in pool room, lubricated hinges, coffee at 5:15 a.m., donated bags of rags, unsung heroes in park, & community involvement .. and “hearing from all of us”. Treasurer Gordon Amos gave his report & it was approved. Properties chair Ron Zoeller thanked George Mason for his repairs to rope lighting. Our projector had vertical lines when used yesterday; something wrong inside unit & Ron taking to Office Depot for repair. Concerning kitchen grease trap, we would buy unit, owners pay to install. We approved purchase of trap. Ron still recycles on Tuesdays and requests we NOT tie plastic bags. The carryout plastic boxes are not accepted by recycling.

Rex Rexroad asked if there is 1st aid kit in kitchen. Reply was “yes”. Kits may need to be upgraded, resupply one in card room.

FREE MOVIE this Thursday is Appollo 13 featuring Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon in this Ron Howrd film which was awarded 9 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Movie starts at 7 p.m. with cartoon preceding feature. There will be popcorn, variety of ice cream, soda & water for sale before movie & during intermission.

Denise Cheek invited residents to enjoy potluck before Thursday movie. Eat at 5:30, bring dish to share.

Entertainment chair Marylyn Mason thanked residents for the great support on Fridays. Come this Friday for “Rick McEwin. Cost is $7 pp. Please don’t bring $50 & $100 bills. Judi DeKoning has printed cards with entire schedule. You may pick these up when you enter hall for show. 50-50 draw, ice cream treats for sale at intermission. Popcorn available!!

Dance chair Craig Daves said great crowd last week. Tonight’s music is a new group, Southbound. Cost is $7 pp. Free popcorn, soda pop for sale, 50-50 draw.

Thanks to Marvin & Mary Weeder and Fred & Verleen Fehringer who are serving coffee & donuts on Mondays in February.

Donna Gabbert puts up cards in office area for your signature. If you know of someone needing card due to illness or death in family, call her at 956-968-6684. Cards this week were for Vicki Carlson, her brother died; Janet Rader, going to Rochester for tests; Ellis Hauser, passed away.

Breakfast continues on Saturday morning, $3 pp, 7-8:30 a.m. Biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs this week, served by Club Board.

Dave Johnson #93 has completed the new park directories. They may be purchased for $2 each.

John Norris is updating the digital directory to be emailed to residents. If your pic is in current directory, it’s not necessary to have a new one made. If you have a good close up pic that you want to use, you can email John at Jdnorris811@att.net.

If anyone wants a copy of the slide show from Sock Hop, John Norris will provide in both PDF & movie format on USB memory stick for $5, files are too large for email. Pictures from this year’s event have been added to what was shown at hop.

Vicki Davis #252 chairs Craft Sale Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon. Lots of new vendors! RVE park vendors may set up 5-8 p.m. Wednesday. Doors will be locked at 8:30. No activities on Wed. after 2 p.m. due to set up. There will be lunch with sandwiches & pies. Sally Hejlik chairs kitchen. Sign up if you can bring pie.

Following Craft Show, attend celebration of Ray & Margaret Davis on 75 years of marriage. This will be held 2-4 p.m. Fred Goldsberry will play for dancing & listening. He is playing for TIPS.

Sandy Novak tells us 8 couples will be honored on their special wedding anniversaries at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9. Honorees are: Dave & Kathy Cochran (50); Craig & Dana Daves, Ron & Lois Henderson, Ed & Charilyn Hover, Chuck & Nancy Gonnerman, Marv & Mary Weeder (all 55); Gordon & Joyce Amos (60) and Ray & Margaret Davis, 75. Sign up if you plan to attend. There will be entertainment & a short program.

Sandy Olson announced we will have the opportunity to learn about the AED & basic CPR on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1:30 p.m. when Richard Stubbs, a paramedic from Weslaco Fire Dept. gives instruction. He’ll talk about this at our Monday meeting, Feb. 17. Already many have signed up for this class.

Linda Palermo chairs Feb. 20 Veterans’ Dinner. $10 pp tickets are available. Final day for ticket sales is Feb. 19. This event is OPEN to all. Linda thanks everyone who has donated raffle items which were on display. Raffles & 50-50 draw tickets are $1 ea., 6 for $5. She has lined up entertainment you will enjoy. Theme is RVE USO Show, with proceeds going to Camp Corral. Meal will be served at noon.

Mexican Fiesta is theme of Feb. 27 dance according to chair Kathy Cochran. Times will be announced soon. Tickets at $10 pp or $80/table will be selling next Monday, Feb. 10, at 8 a.m. Gather your friends; put one person in charge of money to make it easier on ticket sellers. You may purchase individual tickets if you wish.Table coverings & table service provided. It’s BYOB & cups. Decorate tables. Fred Goldsberry will play.

Many residents remained after morning meeting to hear Ronda Lewis speak about the newly opened Micro-Hospital in Weslaco. This is located on Exp 83 between Westgate Drive & Border Avenue & is the first of its kind such facility in the Rio Grande Valley. It has a full service emergency department including 12 ED beds, 2 trauma beds, unit with 8 inpatient beds; laboratory, pharmacy, imaging & respiratory services. Many questions were answered this morning. It has capability to transfer test results to neuro-vascular doctors. The micro-hospital accepts almost every insurance, is affiliated with Valley Baptist & accepts VA patients.
