Mark Probst gave Properties report. We had a couple of sample chairs for residents to sit on to help decide which we prefer. There were so many opinions! We ruled out the new padded blue chairs. Some comments: “3 hours on black chairs is too long”, “any chair for 3 hours would be uncomfortable”, “no two people have same body size or shape”, “weight limit of 1000 lbs. was tested”, “don’t get rid of old blue tall back chairs we have”, “foolish to throw away any”, “charge less at functions if worrying about too much money to remain non-profit tax-wise”, “back doesn’t fit properly”, “purchase as many new as the old brown ones we will be eliminating”. A motion to purchase 240 black chairs was made & seconded, approved. There will be a sheet on board in back of Friendship Hall to sign up if you wish to purchase some of the old folding chairs. Thanks, Mark, for your research!

Thanks to Linda Palermo & committee for the wonderful Veterans Dinner Thursday. ROTC students from Weslaco High School presented the colors & singers from Weslaco High sang the National Anthem. A video of one of Bob Hope’s USO shows was shown prior to our meal served by Weslaco Police officers. We enjoyed meeting 12 year old Fieldy, a black lab that served in Afghanistan along with owner/handler, Marine Nick Caveras. Caveras spoke of what these dogs do in locating IEDs & bombs. Caveras was able to adopt Fieldy upon their retirements. If you wish to learn more about Sgt. Fieldy, you can pull up on Google. Country Pickin’ Band donated their music for us. Irene Quail presented a brick to be placed at the War Memorial in McAllen to honor Clyde Read for his help. Brick was given to Clyde from chair Linda at Christmas. Special recognition was given to two World War II veterans living in our park, Ray Davis & Ed Irvine. Irvine received a quilted wall hanging presented by Marge Rexroad who also gave quilts to each member of the band and to Caveras. All proceeds went to Camp Corral. We thank all veterans for their service!

“Special thanks to Linda Palermo & the folks who made the Vets Dinner possible. The room looked awesome, food was good, & my Dad felt special & proud to be recognized.
