Information on kitchen roasters was given by Maxine Topel.  We thank her for her research.  She said two methods were used to test roasters we have:  hot-dry & water.  We currently have 13 roasters, only 4 work well, others have issues such as a buzzing sound, hot cords, rust spots, missing non-slip feet on bottom, thermostats no good.  She recommended if we purchase new ones, they all be one specific brand so lids will interchange.  18 & 22 qt. sizes are available.  Maxine felt 18 qt. size would be best for our purposes & would store better.  We are reminded to NEVER put water in cook well.  Prices range from $65 to $120.  We voted & approved purchase of 10 new 18 qt. roasters.  Mark Probst will deliver old unworkable ones to recycling center.

Craig Daves agreed to contact Captain Stubbs of Weslaco Fire Dept. concerning the Vial of Life.   It appears this will be a project in the fall.

Join us for Chair Zumba, a 17 minute exercise video that will motivate you to achieve your fitness goals.  Meet new people at recreation hall, 10 a.m. starting April 11,3 days a week.  Call Betty Brodel 956-245-9832.  A new TV has been purchased for this activity.

Activities that continue include “31” tonight at 6 p.m. in card room; Wednesday Happy Hour 4 p.m. in big hall; TIC Wednesday evenings;  Dummy Rummy Saturday mornings; plus other games whenever you choose.

Middle Age (or older) in a Nutshell

“Who cares if it looks good?  I’m comfortable.”

“Has anyone seen my phone?”

“The scale?  That cannot be right!”

“Did I already take my vitamin?”

“Huh, I wonder how I got this bruise…”

“Why is the print on these instructions so tiny?”

“$5 for a box of cereal?  They raised the price

and shrunk the box .. such a racket!”

“Software update again?  I don’t like updates.”

“Who in the world is calling me at 9:30 p.m.?”

“Sorry, I forgot what I was going to say.”

“Wait!  What did I come in here for?”

“I could’ve sworn that was my password!”

Love your mother !

A young man was walking through a supermarket to pick up a few things & he noticed an old lady following him around.  Thinking nothing of it, he ignored her & continued on.

Finally he went to the checkout line but she got in front of him.  “Pardon me,” she said, “I’m sorry if my staring at you has made you feel uncomfortable.  It’s just that you look just like my son who just died recently.”

“I’m very sorry,” replied the young man, “is there anything I can do for you?”  “Yes,” she said, “As I’m leaving, can you say ‘Goodbye, Mother’?  It would make me feel so much better.”  “Sure,” answered the young man.

As the old woman was leaving, he called out, “Goodbye, Mother!”  As he stepped up to the checkout counter, he saw that his total was $127.50.  “How can that be?” he asked, “I only purchased a few things!”

“Your mother said that you would pay for her,” said the clerk.

Remember a couple weeks ago when I told you

I was running out of clean jokes?  No one sent me any clean ones .. so I am forced to print this.

A little old man shuffled slowly into an ice cream parlor & pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool.  Catching his breath, he ordered a banana split.

The waitress asked kindly, “Crushed nuts?”

“No,”, he replied, “Arthritis”

Mark Probst reported for Properties Committee. ICE MACHINE IS WORKING! The problem was someone turned the water off. He explained features & cost if we decided to lease a machine. 1-2-3 year terms are offered & Mark recommended 2 year lease. Cost would include $465 prior to set up, set up fee of $310, monthly cost of $155. After the 2 year period, we could lease a new machine if we choose. Lease would include 24/7 service which we do not now have. Warranty has run out. When asked why we don’t set up machine INSIDE, he said we would need drain & electricity, plus it is noisy. This was tabled & will be discussed again.

Park owner Walter Piper was with us this morning. He said owners would give $1,000 toward ice machine project. Among his comments: “We have turned the corner with COVID.” He introduced his son Todd Piper who will be taking over much of what Walter has done for years. Walter added, “I’m sorry I haven’t come to see you as often, due to my wife’s health. You are here for fun & to enjoy life as best you can. Canadians will be back. We will build. To save cost of fuel for traveling, ‘6-6er’ folks may leave their unit for summer at no charge. We bought 2 generators, one for small rec hall, 1 for pool & part of big hall. If you are heading north, I am praying for cold weather there so you stay longer! RVE is still the friendliest park in The Valley! Todd & I will be here all week if you have any questions.” When chair Judy asked why managers do not give weekly report at Monday meetings, Walter said he would ask them why they do not attend.

TY to Patty Lamp & Phyllis Branstetter who served coffee & donuts today. There is a signup sheet if you wish to provide donuts in honor of a special occasion. Give your name to Sandy Olson & your name will be announced. If no one signs up, club pays the $30 cost. Bring donuts by 8:15 a.m.

Hopefully I’ve learned ..

On a positive note, I’ve learned you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles four things: a rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, & tangled Christmas tree lights.

Regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life.

If you pursue happiness, it will elude you. If you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your work & doing the very best you can .. happiness will find you.

Whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.

Welcome to these newcomers to our park .. the Dillons (#231) and the Reingls (#175). Both formerly lived at Zapata.

Managers’ Report – None today. Website for park is riovalleyestates.com

Note from Chairperson:

“We continue to have issues with keys for cupboards, kitchen area, etc. EVERYONE who has any keys is asked to turn them over to board before heading north this spring. We will have a locksmith rekey every lock. Only 1 key will be needed for ALL of kitchen. Each board member will receive a complete set of keys. Chairpersons can sign out a set on Monday prior to an event; then will return the set on following Monday.”

Virginia Baker gave Secretary report. It was approved.

Sandy Olson gave Treasurer’s report, accepted.

Mark Probst reported for Properties. He has a BIG load of recyclables which will be delivered tomorrow. Maxine Topel thanked the person who had donated Red Devil vacuum cleaner. It now needs filters & is taped to keep it running. She priced a new Sharp vacuum cleaner which including filters would cost $260. We voted to purchase this.

Chair Judy gave a history of vacuum cleaners in the park, used by volunteers (we thank them!). She said the carpet in card room is to be replaced with vinyl & the new Sharp vacuum should work ok on that.

Today Dave & Kathy Cochran provided donuts in honor of their son Chad’s 50th birthday. Thanks to them. Chad says, “I’ll join you all in 10 years when I turn 60!”

If you don’t have an RVE name tag, check with Donna Gabbert who makes these. We encourage folks to wear them.
