Having a great time!

We aren't letting some old Virus curtail our fun here at R.V.E. That is, we are doing some of our "fun" things trying to make the best of the situation.

We are having a golf cart parade Christmas Day, we will all meet at the dog park at 4:00. We are to bring our own snacks and drink, social hour after, masks and social distancing  of course!

Texas Holden is being played and games of "Tic", and "Dummy Rummy" I see some Shuffling and Aquasizes when it's warm enough.

Line dancing was fun this a.m. it's every Tuesday and Thursday, after "Yoga"

It's a little tough doing it on carpet, but we have no choice. Why they don't have the big hall open makes me so upset, I know the Hall would have to be sanitized but that's the Parks job and our job to wear masks and keep our distance. We can use our hand sanitizer going in and coming out and wipe down any table or counter we touch

Obit for Jr. Kaduce

Claus "Junior" Kaduce Jr.

( October 23, 1925 - November 29, 2020 )

Claus H. Kaduce, Jr. "Junior" was born to Janette (Hass) and Claus H. Kaduce, Sr. on October 23, 1925 on the Kaduce farm in rural Amboy and died peacefully on this farm on November 29, 2020.

In order to keep our cherished family and friends as safe as possible, a private family service will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery with Rev. Rudy Maurer Jr officiating, which can be viewed on the funeral home website at 2 p.m. on Friday December 4, 2020 and will also be recorded for later viewing. Spencer-Owen Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.  www.SpencerOwen.com

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amboy or Pleasant View Cemetery.

Claus attended country school in Shelby township and farmed with his father.  He served in the Army in Korea from 1950-52 during the Korean Conflict.  Junior was united in marriage to Jean Madsen on March 9, 1957 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Winnebago.  Junior enjoyed farming with his brother Edwin for over 17 years and continued to farm until he retired at the age of 62. He watched his son Ken take over the farming operation with great pride and interest, particularly during the fall harvest.  Hunting and snowmobiling were favorite pastimes, as well as going out on Saturday nights with Jean and their dear friends for dancing and socializing.  Junior was competitive and valued times spent shooting pool and playing cards, particularly 500 and buck euchre.  The last 25 winters were spent with Jean at Rio Valley Estates in Weslaco, TX, including this past winter. He loved his family, his church, his farm and his community.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years Jean; son Ken (Jill) Kaduce; daughters Carol Ries and Kathy (Doug) Bergemann; grandchildren Ryan (Renae) Ries, Thalia (Donnie) Potter, John (Amy) Ries, Rachel Mensing, Shane Sweetman, Trevor (Amber) Humphrey, Megan (Taylor) Morgan, Tessa Bergemann; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Harry and Hannah Madsen; son-in-law Chuck Ries; siblings and their spouses Dena (Stanley) Madsen, Ervin (Verna) Kaduce, Edwin (Melinda) Kaduce, Vic (Gladys) Kaduce, Violet (Elwin) Wolters, Irene (Bill) Tyson, infant sister Hilda; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Fran and Dorothy Greger, and many dear friends.

Loralie (Cookie) Shackleford from Osage City, Ks. passed away Nov. 28th

She came to R.V.E. many years ago 2002 or 2003? Not sure when and her Brother came down some with her, Bruce Oelke. I think she had a park model maybe on lot 27,28, somewhere along there. She was 94 years old

Dec. 4th

A cute Christmas card!

It's been nice and cool here, lows in the upper 40's and 50's, highs only 60's up to 70 or so. Puts me in the Christmas mood!

Still only the small hall open and only 3 tables. I played "Tic"  last night, it was good to get out in the evening for cards and plan on doing that a lot more, not too much on t.v. to my liking.

Line dancing and yoga every Tuesday and Thursday, which I enjoyied going to yesterday.

A card shower for Catherine Donovan will be this Friday, the 11th for her 95th Birthday. There's time for you to send her a card if you hurry.

A cake will be taken over and there's a box at Pam's for cards from us

For Rent

Judy Shivelys park model is for rent # 12, call 785-640-1444

Her Dr. advised her not to come down this year, she has some lung problems.

There has been several folks come in recently. But our big hall is not open yet. Other parks have opened theres, don't know why ours is not open. There is going to be some ticked off people if management does not open things up, they need to get with the city to see what guide lines we are to follow. We can certainly social distance in the big hall and wear masks of course. Some folks aren't even thinking about coming at all if we don't get the hall open.

Love to ya allDonna

October 13th

We have been having lows in the 70's and highs in the 90's, humidity is back also. but cooler temps on the way. Our pool has been closed again. don't know the reason but have seen guys there working on it.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw the shuffleboards being resurfaced. We do not have only a hand full of shufflers and have had very few of the courts used at all. And all those larger new pads in the 99's and 50 amp service, finally.  It seems like getting everything spiffied up to sell the park. My opinion only

Janice Williams is trying to get books put away and get rid of old books in poor condition and most all of those Harlequin Romances. SHE MAKES A REQUEST, DO NOT DONATE ANY BOOKS FOR THE LIBRARY! There's no room left. DO NOT BRING IN MAGAZINES OR COOKBOOKS,again, no room for them. I was in there yesterday, it's a nightmare trying to find room for what we have.

I am writing this at 11:00 p.m. I wanted to watch the first session of the Batchlorette, saw about 30 minutes of it, fell asleep until 10 p.m. now no sleep in me 😃

Sure will be interesting to see if Trump gets 4 more years. A lot of people think he will.😞

I voted early and glad to get it over with. It will be great to not see all the ads on Facebook, most all putting Trump down.  I think mainly for his poor handling of the Virus.

October 5th

We are having lovely Fall weather for the last week and more, 60's  in the mornings up to 90 in the afternoon. I miss the Fall colors. I have been in Texas permanently since 1987, and I love the mild winters, wouldn't want to live anywhere else. But would like a few months up North in the Summer.

All the parks getting ready for the Winter visitors...our palm trees were trimmed here last week, our park looks great. The pool is sparkling clean and enjoy it so much. Our new maintanence man, Daniel,  doing a good job on the pool only taking a little longer

A few cards are up for Ron  Zoeller, had a stroke, and a card for Davis Cochran, he had carotid artery problems.

Krantz has moved there mobile out of our park, They have some close friends in Leisure World where they go to Bible Study each week. They are 2 sites down from Rexroads. Love the location of our park so much. And our Park really looks so nice.

Gibbs are here now and Norman said he went to Mexico the other day and it took a long time to get in, lots of week-end visitors I expect. Coming out there were 2 lines open and no problem.

Not a whole lot going on here. Everyone wearing masks in the stores and social distancing everywhere

So tired of all that

Our card room

Looking kind of bare...still think it will be hard playing at a 60in. table, discarding cards and dealing

I have plenty of alcohol wipes for tables so maybe we can get up some games up this week, hand sanitizer is provided.

This was taken a couple days ago, this row is now finished clear to the bathrooms

Just a few more to go....pads still looks too close together...but what do I know😎

Good news

We all just got notices in our mail boxes that the pool is open, it will be open 24 hrs. 10 allowed in, also the card room is open 24 hrs, as they are installing coded entry locksets, allowing 3 tables only with 4 per table. Lobby to be open 7a.m. until 6 p.m. Hopefully the big hall will open soon, it's so much easier to social distance in there and 8 ft. tables spaced out, should be able to have more folks in then.

For the Winter Texans

This is an email I just received from "Kristi"

It's time to start packing!

With only 53 days before the Winter Texan season 'officially' starts, I'm sure many of you are wondering what this season might look like.

One thing is for sure:  It will be different!  Life as we know it has been turned upside down, dropped a few times then stomped on.  2020 has not been kind on so many fronts!  So while we know that the Winter Texan season will be different, life anywhere will be different than it was this time last year.

The good news is, that the number of COVID cases in both Cameron and Hidalgo County are going down.  We continue to watch these numbers and hopefully they will continue to decline.  Also good news is that there is plenty to do here in the Rio Grande Valley outdoors - where you can enjoy playing golf, walking down the beach, bike riding, playing tennis or going for a swim - all the while maintaining social distancing protocols.

We know it's a real bummer.  But we also know that this is an opportunity to create new activities and outings, so be on the lookout for fun itineraries, suggestions and guides!

Let me know what your travel plans are this season, I love to hear from you!

We're just connecting the dots,

A note

Well, this morning our friend Anita Madson left for good. Her mobile is for sale. she has health problems, her Son came with his pickup and loaded her golf cart in the back and pulling her car.

Marge and Rex's 62nd Anniversary was today and a few of us went to Nancy's for breakfast I put a picture on facebook, over 20 people wished them a Happy Anniversary, and several commented, that they would be missed here in the Park, as they now reside in Leisure World.

Aloyce  Berglund former resident of our Park shared this today on facebook. David and her lived in Duluth for a long time before retiring.

 Duluth Poluce Local 807

“I am going to share like I have never before. I am going to do so because so many people truly have no idea. This story is not an anomaly and happens across this country day in and day out. All I ask is that you pause and read what it is truly like out here in the real world. Not how the media spins it or some keyboard warrior tweets about a world they do not live in and know nothing about.

Last night my world and my entire family's world almost changed forever. I almost shot an "unarmed black man." My partner got on the radio and told us a shooting was happening right in front of her very eyes. Shot after shot rang out in our community we have sworn to protect. 17 shots in all were fired and now people were fleeing everywhere. My partners all went towards the gun shots, no race was said, no thought of our own safety was contemplated. We went because that is what we are called to do. We must help our community no matter who is in danger and no matter the risk. My partners found two of the suspects, and I rushed to help them as they are yelling they are not complying and now they are fighting. Where are the guns used? Do they have them? Are they going to try and kill my partners? All thoughts as I pull up and see my partners on the ground fighting with one male, a black man. Another black man is near them and turns to run as i approach. My partners yell "stop him."

I yell for him to stop and he turns and runs. Where is the gun? Does he still have it? Is he going to shoot me? My partners? Is he and innocent person just out for a walk? I give chase, he continues to run around a corner. Is he going to ambush me when I turn the corner? Where is the gun? My partners are yelling for more officers. The male keeps running until I and my partner gain ground on him and he stops. "Get your hands in the air!" He does not. "Get on the ground!" He does not. Where is the gun?!!!!! He turns his back hiding his hands from us, still not listening to commands. Where is the gun?!!!! I level my pistol at him. I put my finger on the trigger. Is this it? Is he going to shoot us? Am i going to have to shoot this man to save myself and others??? Will my wife wake up a widow, will my children no longer have their father? Is our community going to change forever because of me? Will everything burn only because we want to help? Because we want to live and not die? Because we don't want to see innocent people in our community die. All of this in about 1/2 a second... My partner attempts to tackle him and now we fight because he is still not listening. I almost shot an "unarmed black man." Why was he unarmed? Because (unknown to me at the time) when he ran and turned the corner in front of me, he threw the stolen gun he was carrying in the bushes.

When the dust settled officers had cuts and bruises and two multi convicted felons went to jail unharmed, but it was only 1/16 of a squeeze from changing our world forever. All of this while you slept comfortably in your homes, safe from the wolves who roam our streets. You will not hear this story on the news. No one will call national attention to it. No one will say anything about this night. We simply just dust ourselves off, make sure each of us is ok and go on to the next call. This is what happens all across this country more often than you could ever imagine, but we are racist, we have to change. There must be accountability. Police must be defunded. Each and every day we dust each other off, make sure we are ok and go out into our communities and do the right thing. As the media, professional athletes, politicians, and social media warriors bash us day in and day out. Our promise to you as officers each day is that we will dust each other off, make sure we are ok, and go out into our community and die trying to make sure you are safe while you sleep in peace at night. I almost shot an "unarmed black man" last night. I challenge anyone to get out of your comfort zone and ride with us. Take a day in our shoes and see what it is really like. The truth, the unedited truth. We ask for nothing in return other than allowing the truth to come out. Wait for the facts. Stop destroying us before we even have a chance! Stop pushing the false narrative. Stand with us, help us! We are not heroes, we are men and women who just want to do the right thing.”

August 24th

It sure is quiet here in the Park. I did go to the Cowboy Church Sunday and then out to Dinner.  It's good to eat out and feel safe about doing it. We went to Nancy's Cafe . Hand sanitizing before entering and masks on until seated.  I found out as soon as I got home that I left my Cell phone back at the Cafe, so I beat it back over there. But they were closed, I had parked directly in front of the cafe and my car said connect a phone, and I clicked on it and my phone was connected to my phone which was inside the Cafe  So if I wanted to call anyone I would have to be in front of the cafe, 😄  I got out of the car and peered in the window and saw my phone by the cash register with a little note on top of it.. So this morning I went over at about 7:30 and got my phone. Of course since I was already there I had a great breakfast.

Sure is a different world now with this Virus raging down here. The stores like Penny's , WalMart, Target etc. all have carts sitting with people who spray them down and of course no one gets to enter without a mask.

Iowa trip

I always think how I would love to live back in Iowa, or atleast live there in the summer, then I think of tornados and such and think safer down here. But we of course just went through a hurricane that dumped 12 inches of rain on us...

Well, I decided to drive up to Iowa, and guess what? A huge storm came through and wreaked havoc over about a 160 mile stretch across the State. It started out getting quite windy and getting very dark, then  very very windy and very very dark! Time to go to the basement! Power went out! Friends Barb and Butch came over as they don't have a basement. Wiunds were clocked at 83 in Jefferson, 0ver 90 in Perry and over 100 in DesMoines, and Marshalltown 113.

The Report on the news said 10 Million acres of corn flattened, many grain bins destroyied

Barb's blog too see many of their pictures.  https://brooker3.blogspot.com/

a few I took

Trees and branches etc. were strewn across most roads in Jefferson, one of the pictures shows limbs pulled back off the street, there were even tree limbs that fell on roofs and did considerable damage. Some huge trees uprooted

We worked a couple days getting my Sisters yard back to normal, and neighbors were helping neighbors and pickups stopped to haul debree away.

below is a picture I took, I thought it so pretty, My sister Mickey had some pretty "Naked Lady's" flowers but most of them got knocked down in the storm

July 30th

As soon as Dan saw the power pole leaning, I understand that AEP was called, no one came out, also several other people called them, then I called them, no one came. I know they were very very busy getting electric turned on for many folks. I was just going by the office when a AEP truck went by and turned to go out of the park. I hurried as fast as I could and thank God there was some traffic so they had to wait. I pulled up and yelled at them and the one guy got off the truck and I told him I need help there's a power pole with a transformer leaning over my mobile. They turned around and followed me home. They accessed the situation, they were from Laredo, and they didnt have the equipment to fix the pole they took pictures and sent them to a crew that could help. Later another AEP truck from the Valley came and said the location of the pole was too close to the park models and they needed a special rig to set a new pole there. They said they would be back the next day and advised me I should not stay in my mobile but...I did, the next morning a huge bunch of AEP trucks came along the 400's and one came behind the 400's where the grass back there was like a swamp, but they had some kind of huge matts they put ahead of the truck and came across the back yards of the 400's, and there were around 6 guys working to get the new hole drilled and set the new pole before taking out the old one. It took a good 7 or 8 hours

July 26th

As I write this I have a power pole leaning over above my mobile. If it were to fall all the way it would fall on the shed attached to the house. I would hope it would not start a huge fire like the one at 404, owneD by Glenda Warren. that fire started by wires falling on the shed. It went up in flames quickly, I was scared it would spread rapidly to other park models and mobiles. But the Weslaco Fire Dept. did a good job of getting the fire out, high winds and all.
A few pics taken from others who posted them on facebook,

Linda Millers awning off, dont think theres a picture yet

I stayed at the  Delux Inn next to the park. I felt so much more at ease there. Especially when the weatherman said 70 to 80 mph wind. WOW DID IT ROAR, and blow hard for hours at a time.
I had 2 small window awnings tore up, besides the power pole leaning over the mobile.
Dan was right on to checking everyones mobiles for damage, I saw him real early from the Motel riding around with Jan. They are calling anyone with major damage. folks need to give him a big thanks for ........as he said he wants to keep us safe. He has had big head aches with the gate this Summer. Someone mentioned he leaves gates open at night and on weekends for anyone to enter the Park, What are they thinking? When it doesnt close for any reason he is on it.

July 24th

Is anyone else getting bored staying in so much? I still can't believe this is happening.
My next door neighbor Maria Marin  and her live in has the Virus. I talked to her this morning and she is really sick. So now that makes 4 here in the Park. DA and Kathy are doing good now but I hear she was really sick with it. Now still some weakness but they are doing ok.

I have been watching some  really good movies on Netflix, crocheting, and doing a little mask decorating. (A little bling on the masks). Taking care of my plants and some cleaning out of drawers, closets,  and cupboards.

It's neat to drive around the rural areas,  cotton is being picked, big bails in the fields like those huge round hay bales you see up North only the cotton is wrapped in white plastic. I also was going to pick up my yard man the other day and saw a neat cactus in bloom, it's like the one in Marge and Ann's back yard.

There's some big concrete pads now in the 99's. I guess the owners are expecting some big rigs to take those spaces. I wonder just how many will even come down this Winter. I guess the weather will bring most down. We will see....

Mark Probst has added lots of pictures of the new pads and pictures of the new mail building, on the Rio Valley site on facebook.

July 11th

Hi everyone, I suppose the big story is how hot it is!!! 😎 I just talked to friend Arlene Fisher and she said it was hot in Iowa also. Well, really this is the usual down here, atleast in Iowa it doesn't last for 4 to 5 months. I usually don't water the yard much but I saw on the weather forecast no rain in the future so decided to water. Bobby had installed under ground water sprinklers. But the grass had grown over them and I could hardly find them, but turned on the system and was able to locate them. so I have been trimming around the water heads and watered for a bit this morning.
A lot of work has been going on in the Park this Summer. I feel so sorry for the guys who have been doing so much digging out in the 99;s. I think there will be 50 amp in most sites except A B & C and wether they get any more done this summer I just don't know. Also making bigger pads for the larger units.

Sure seem close together tho

Our pool and buildings all closed up,  I have heard a few folks say they may not come down as early ....just have to wait and see.  And worrying about the Canadians coming down. Hope and pray they will be able to come.

I see Mark Probst has put some pictures on the RVE site on Facebook, and yes there are those barriers dividing the lanes for a short distance coming in the park, removed the other day as a new mobile came in on #287 and replaced  now.

A card for the Family of Prudentia Garza is on the board to sign and a card for Jo Roberts on the death of husband Buzz

July 2nd

July 4th Scraps, Graphics and comments
GoodLightscraps.com

Happy 4th to you all!

We had Bobby's service Monday, the VFW post 8788 from McAllen did a beautiful full military service over 20 there and many saying how nice and moving it was. Mark Prohst gave a nice message. We were very lucky as a few weeks before, the cemetery did not allow the services because of the Virus, but had just started to allow them, and was told they may have to shut them down again.
In this picture you can see they do not do an actual graveside service but is in this neat shelter like building. It was very nice. We practiced social distancing and wore our masks and some stood in the back for the service.

I have a few cards We are signing one for Paul and Sharon Sprague, her Sister, Pam, passed away. and a card for the Family of Prudencia Garza lot #241 she passed away.

We had a big rain last week and now hot hot weather and windy, tomarrow it's supposed to be less wind but still hot. Lows around 80 highs 90's to close to 100.

I see the young man Jose,(just hired) and another man out digging in the 99's. I guess for 50 amp service. Jesse will be leaving, I heard the mgmnt wants younger guys to work....

I wished I had more news for ya but when you don't get told anything then you have no idea what's happening here. Wandering if they're going to replace the carpet in the card room, needs it so bad...cleaning is not going to help it. Wandering when the pool will reopen...amoung other things,
Lobby only open a couple hours in the morning.
